I was about to say "I have a cunning plan". "Why don't I try a dhcp address where it should be!"

hehe, so the good news you shared is that
Code:
 Linux lsmipsel 2.6.23 #1 Mon Aug 11 15:17:30 CDT 2008 mips unknown
seems OK, although PCI stuff may not be much good w/ this...

I will see if 2.6.23.17 will build. If so, I will put up a kernel/module package for LS2 users to dip into... EDIT : After we get the scsi/sata/usb stuff checked... I'm thinking it is borked...

2.6.24 and higher will take considerably more work. Maybe someone more able or energetic would be willing to help out with the pci, timer irq, and war.h stuff? I saw some similar work over at OpenWRT... maybe it could be adapted?

For reference, some rc32434 support looks like it now in linux-2.6.27rc2... http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/v2.6/27-r ... -rc32434.c

Code:
davygravy@bitbaker-i686:~/Desktop/mips/linux-2.6.27-rc2$ find . -name *rc32434*
./include/asm-mips/mach-rc32434
./include/asm-mips/mach-rc32434/rc32434.h
./arch/mips/pci/ops-rc32434.c
./arch/mips/pci/pci-rc32434.c
./arch/mips/pci/fixup-rc32434.c

and from menuconfig:
Code:
CONFIG_MIKROTIK_RB532:                                                                                              │
  │                                                                                                                     │
  │ Support the Mikrotik(tm) RouterBoard 532 series,                                                                    │
  │ based on the IDT RC32434 SoC.                                                                                       │
  │                                                                                                                     │
  │ Symbol: MIKROTIK_RB532 [=y]                                                                                         │
  │ Prompt: Mikrotik RB532 boards                                                                                       │
  │   Defined at arch/mips/Kconfig:557

... granted the RB532 board is quite different from the EB434 ...

Bauldrick, are you game for another try? (and a pre-emptive thanks for your continued patience) I made another round of adjustments for the processor speed and a few more things...

http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download ... .27-rc2_v3

Since this is just a bare kernel, not an initramfs... , so it might be better to copy this one to your /boot dir and fill in the ? w/ the correct partition #...

Code:
=> ide reset
=> ext2load ide 0:1 82000000  /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-rc2_v3
=> setenv bootargs netconsole=6666@192.168.11.150/,@192.168.11.149/ root=/dev/sda? rw
=> bootm 82000000

OK, that's a start ... I'll look into some other things :)

Question: Is what you show above more than what you saw on the last one we tried on August 13? (2 days ago we were saying this in the irc...)
Quote:
Aug 13 15:40:23 * davygravy things it is a slim chance of booting, but the results of trying might shed some light...
Aug 13 15:41:12 <Bauldrick> give it a go now, cheers
Aug 13 15:41:56 * davygravy crosses his fingers...
Aug 13 15:47:41 <Bauldrick> doesn't seem to boot , nothing after bootm 82..
Aug 13 15:48:08 <davygravy> kk, that's what I figured...
Aug 13 15:48:11 <davygravy> but...

Probably a day or two and I'll have another one...

OK Bauldrick, a windfall for you, hehe ... :D
A. the same kernel but w/ some debug options enabled...
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download ... rc3-debug3 and

B. some adjustments to memory ... also w/ debug ...
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download ... dmemregion

If you can again try them each, as you did last time, using both kinds of commands... and post back what ya see ... that would be great... :)

Again, thanks Bauldrick... I'll try to make some sense of this and put up another try. The second kernel with the altered add memory region didn't seem to go anywhere... that helps to know.

hmmm... it seems not to have liked the change to the memory region... I made a few tweaks to try to get a bit more info out it it.. and...
maybe we can pass the memory w/ the bootargs...
Code:
setenv bootargs mem=64M netconsole=6666@192.168.11.150/,@192.168.11.149/ root=/dev/sda1 rw

game for another go, Bauldrick?

Bauldrick, I'm gonna dig around locally and see if I can find a cheap or bricked LS2 and hook up serial... I'm guessing unless networking devices and some other stuff is already working, it may be very difficult to do this via netconsole ... though we did try...

I've looked over things a few more times and I still think it is doable... it just may take a while... I will pm you when I have made further progress...

Where things are:
- with the patch I made up for 2.6.23.x, it boots and ethernet is fine. But pci is broken, because of the problem w/ dev->irq, so we aren't able to see ide stuff... also 2.6.23.x is just plain old ... it was a good place to start, but probably not worth continuing here.
- 2.6.27 looks promising, since a related board (rb532) is now supported in 2.6.27-rc3. The rb532 has the same SoC and some similar board specs, but has a CF slot instead of IDE, NAND, and two extra (VIA) ethernet ports. Some of the rb532 structure was based on the same work for the IDT EB434 board (which LNI used as a base for the LS2). Currently the kernel builds, but some board specific stuff needs to be changed, including:
    removing the NAND, extra ethernet and CF stuff,
    adding in support for the ST and Macronix chips
    adding in the IT8211 PCI IDE disk controller
    add in USB
    checking over the ethernet/korina stuff- it may be OK as is

OK, the cf slot and rb532 NAND stuff is removed, I checked over korina-ethernet ... have a go and post back if you like... you can try it with both of your methods, and w/ and w/o the mem=64M arguement as well... a pre-emptive thanks, Bauldrick...
