This is for my use and is supplied as is for anyone who wants an easy solution to open up theyr device

Some quick notes

Read the following
http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=21857

This works on the CHLv2 and XHL and has been tested by me over 30 times
and doesnt cause bricks like buffalo's release

You flash on your own head if you brick it dont come crying to me

It should also work on these pids but I havnt tested them
as I dont have the devices and am out of space for more

ProductID = 0x00000011
ProductID2 = 0x00000012
ProductID3 = 0x00000014
ProductID4 = 0x00003006
ProductID5 = 0x00003007
ProductID6 = 0x00000015
ProductID7 = 0x00000016
ProductID8 = 0x00003008

Pid 0x00000013 has been disabled (LS-SL) from the updater as I removed uImage-88f5182.buffalo
from uImage.img to stop brick problems on a rebuild partition table update
Dont try forcing an update on an LS-SL by editing the ini's unless you replace uImage.buffalo with uImage-88f5182 renamed to uImage.buffalo from uImage.img in the buffalo firmware

How to revert to twonky 4.4.19 on XHL's

Though there isnt a big urge to go back now
due to there being an auto push to Twonky 5.1.1 from buffalo which works much better than 5.0.34 that was installed before

I need to look into fixing the twonky 5x web interface at some point
anyone looked into this? pm me if you have a fix

vi /etc/init.d/twonky.sh
line 219
if [ "${SUPPORT_DTCP_IP}" != "1" ]; then
change to
if [ "${SUPPORT_DTCP_IP}" != "2" ]; then
save and exit
rm -r /usr/local/twonky-alt
reboot

it will run twonky 4.4.19 from then on
chlv2 users get twonky 4.4.19 anyway so there's no problem for them

Thank you for sharing your work with us.

One small remark from my side. Do NOT copy ssh_host_* from
an original Buffalo release.
This keys should be unique for each host and therefore created
on the box itself. The "original" sshd.sh contains some routines
which do exactly this, if the keys are not present.
Copying the keys from a public released firmware undermine the
security aspects completely, because a secret key should be that:
secret.
Just my 2 cents.

Nevertheless, nice work you did.

Yep I know
when I made it I was on a dhgl and the quickest and easiest way was to just copy over the keys
and its not a problem for me as I dont ssh over the net
and its still 1000 times more secure than telnet either way

but its a trivial fix so I have just fixed it
and im gzip'n it up now

1.26-MOD1a
Deleted ssh_host_dsa_key
Deleted ssh_host_dsa_key.pub
Deleted ssh_host_key
Deleted ssh_host_key.pub
Deleted ssh_host_rsa_key
Deleted ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
Edited /etc/init.d/ssh.sh to generate rsa keys on first boot

Anyone who wants to use 1.31 on an xhl
can go back to twonky 4.4.19 by editing

vi /etc/init.d/twonky.sh

line 239

if [ "${SUPPORT_DTCP_IP}" != "1" ]; then

change to

if [ "${SUPPORT_DTCP_IP}" != "2" ]; then

save and exit

rm -r /usr/local/twonky-alt

reboot

it will run twonky 4.4.19 from then on

chlv2 users get twonky 4.4.19 anyway so there's no problem for them

You should read what Shonk wrote in his changelog.
There should be a possibility to reset to defaults in the web interface.
This should also clear the root password.

Thank you so much for 1.31 firmware i now have twonky v4.x back and i can now stream my avi's to my xbox 360 once again.

I have had hours on the phone with buffalo tech support and bricked 2 linkstations in the process trying different firmwares.

I am over the moon and a big thank you to Shonk for his time and effort.

Great guy :up:
