I've installed Freelink on my hdhg, and followed all the directions. When I try to mount my usb drive, mount hangs. I know its formatted as ext3, so this is the mount command I'm using:
mount -t ext3 /etc/sda /home/USB1

I created the directory USB1.
Is there a way to make sure that my linkstation is "seeing" the usb device? Why would mount just hang? HELP :?:

are you still running the stock kernel?

have you updated it via the webinstaller?

most likely this is an issue with the old kernel....and the kernel modules.

http://buffalo.nas-central.org/index.ph ... _Automount

remove the three kernel modules. all three are compiled into the supplied stock kernel...they just cause confusion.

hmm../etc/sda?

that path definitely cannot be correct.

all devices are in /dev..only config stuff is in /etc

/dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc... ->the different usb-hdds...first, second, third....
/dev/sda1 -> first partition of first usbdisk
/dev/sdb3 -> third partition of second usb-disk
.....

i hope this helps.

Yeah. I had it right when I actually did it, just typed it into this message wrong. This worked though:
mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /home/USB1

Thanks again.

One last question (yeah right), if I hook a hub up and connect up, say, 5 drives, will the appropriate sd? be created?
sda, sdb, sdc, sdd, sde

unfortunately not. not now to be precise...

the problem is as most problems related to the kernel.....the moment we get a 2.6.15+ kernel running stable on the LS Prio/LS Live we automatically have UDEV.....this is responsible for creating the devices automatically. at the moment you need to create the device nodes yourself (if they are not already created). this works with mknod....but i am the wrong guy to ask which parameters are needed for it to make the right devicenodes....
