"you will need at least UBoot 1.2 installed on your box"
I´m really really confused about UBoot version numbers.
Apparently UBoot started life as a SourceForge project, here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/u-boot/files/u-boot/
...where the last version number is 1.1.6 and dated 2006.
Without any updating to the sourceforge page, Uboot seems to have moved to http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Boot
...where it says about version numbers:
"Starting with the release in October 2008, the names of the releases were changed from numerical release numbers without deeper meaning into a time stamp based numbering. Regular releases are now identified by names consisting of the calender year and month of the release date. Additional fields (if present) indicate release candidates or bug fix releases in "stable" maintenance trees.
U-Boot v2009.11 - Release November 2009
U-Boot v2009.11.1 - Release 1 in version November 2009 stable tree
U-Boot v2010.09-rc1 - Release candiate 1 for September 2010 release
U-Boot v2011.12 was released on Fri, 23 Dec 2011.
So what does this all mean about U-Boot and the Linkstation?.
Is the "v1.2" a fork of the original 1.1.x ? Wouldn´t it be better to run v2011.12 ?
And finally, why doesn´t think U-Boot people get its act together?. One would think that uploading the latest greatest sources to SourceForge would be the wise thing to do? (world-wide mirrors, etc).
Please help me understand this U-Boot versioning mess, thanks. (Adding some words to yur post about this U-Boot versioning madnes would be of help and clear confusion by newbies, IMHO).
