i suppose you have it on your kuroHG.

here copied from the changelog:
Code:
Version 2.1.0 was released on 16 September 2006 to fix a few problems

    * The network controller driver for the LinkStation 1 / KuroBox standard was enhanced to improve the net  console response
    * The net console driver switches the console to the serial port if it cannot contact the remote computer .

i have 2.1.0 on my LS1.

i suppose it exactly fixes your problem.

i think you can install the other UBoot-binary from kurobox.com.
there should be no differences between kuroHG & LS HG.

but kuroguy should know this best because he already fixed a HG with UBoot.....

wait until he said it is working...then flash the 2.1.0-uboot from there.

Both the 2.0.0 patch and the 2.1.0 patch will work. The 2.1.0 patch fixes a bug (not really a bug as it is default U-Boot behaviour) that halts the boot process if it cannot find the net console. By all means, you want to use the 2.1.0 if you do not have the serial console as defauly. The version I built for you the other evening was with the 2.1.0 patch.

2.1.0 is the best version to go with :)

2 blinks -> kernel from firmimg.bin, hddrootfs

I simply cannot get this to boot into hddrootfs & get a telnet connection. It just won't do it. It seems to hang, or suffer some other problem (connectivity/network). I should have telnet/ft access from there, right? I can't even get a ping.

Main hd filesystem and EM mode are fine.

I need to flash in 2.4 right? Or do we have write access in the uImage 2.6 kernels?
EDIT: We do not have write access, even with these uImage 2.6 kernels, it seems, for the record.

we know. reason is unknown.

maybe a problem with the mtd-driver....but maybe it is only a config problem.

at least i had a config problem with the 2.4.33.3 v1 & v2 kernel that were compiled by me.

v3 allows to write to flash....but somehow writing to flash is damn slow. but it works.

Can you point me to a v3?

I want to finish up by flashing the 2.1.0 uboot that kuroguy sent me.

I am happy to say that I got it to boot into 2.4.33.3 (non EM - the hddrootfs) . I was hoping I'd be able to finish up flashing while booted in this. I noticed that linuxnotincluded has some 2.4.33.3 kernel/ modules stuff in downloads. Is this usable w/ UBoot?

If it is v3, then maybe that's the ticket to get my flashing finished.

BTW. Does hddrootfs work by running the system on the hard drive while booted on the kernel in flash?

i will upload it for you as soon as i rebooted to the hddrootfs and confirmed that it is working by flashing a known to work firmimg.bin to it.....i just flashed my custom firmimg.bin with 2.4.33.3-v3/buildroot-initrd but it did not respond....now i have to stand up and go to the LS1 again which is 2 rooms away... -grml-

i use exactly this patches there.
you can call me the community-2.4.33.3-compiling-machine.

of course....he patched it for UBoot-usage.

i hope so. flashing worked....

i was not able to boot the flashkernel + hddrootfs....but maybe this was related to the firmimg.bin in flash...i am currently flashing a working firmimg.bin back to flash....then i will test it again.

anyway...here is the v3 version you requested:
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download/flash_development/kernel/linuxnotincluded/linux-2.4.33.3-list.mg.2-v3/

modules will follow.

Thank you. Very much.

I will try them as soon as I can.

Is this a clue that it could be a config problem?
Code:
dd if=u-boot-hg.davy_gravy.bin of=/dev/mtdblock1 bs=1k
dd: opening `/dev/mtdblock1': Read-only file system

i had exactly this behaviour. it made me think that it has to be a config-related problem.

now it works..... it is really slow like a slug , but it works.

mtdblockd uses 98 % of CPU for about 9 mins while flashing a firmimg.bin (3 MB)...but it writes it to flash...which is important.

i would test it by writing to /dev/mtd2 where the OKOK-sequence is stored (which is useless with UBoot).

Code:
cat /dev/mtd2 > mtd2
 - look at the mtd2 with vi...then
echo 'NGNGNG' > /dev/mtd2
cat /dev/mtd2 > mtd2
 - look again at mtd2 with vi

your mtd2 should look like this then:
Code:
NGNGNG
KOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOK

if this is the case writing to flash works...but be prepared that a firmimg.bin(3 MB) takes about 9 minutes or so.

always compare the flash content with the file you flashed...

in case of firmimg.bin
Code:
cmp firmimg.bin /dev/mtd0

especially with UBoot as it is the most important part in your box now.

excellent. time for a beer 8-)

I'll give it a whirl as soon as I put the kids to bed...

Say,
mindbender wrote:

which firmimg.bin do you use? Is it more or less the best?

Did get my installation all functional now. It works much better on a static IP w/ this version of UBoot. Hopefully 2.1.0 will be a bit more DHCP inclined, or at least be agreeable w/ networks in the 10.x.x.x range.

await a telnet/ftp/root-enabled-firmimg.bin with 2.4.33.3-v3 in a few minutes.

it will be the best firmimg.bin currently available for the LS1/HG.
there was no v2..i skipped it. and yes it is the most up2date.
i even edit the /etc/issue so it is more universal and does not have the note about write_ok inside...

don`t flash anything else before.

i won`t be able to test it on my own....but with UBoot this isn`t that big problem
it is the last thing i do before finally going to bed...

current time - 4:29 AM
