Hello,

This is probably more of a Debian question than a Freelink one, but I haven't been able to find
an answer that works for me.

I'm trying to get a USB sound adapter to work on my KBHG --- and I have for root, but not for
a non-root user.

If I run "aplay test.wav" as root, I get nice music playing from my stereo.

But, if I run this as a normal user I get:
ALSA lib confmisc.c:670:(snd_func_card_driver) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:3500:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:391:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:3500:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1070:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:3500:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such device
ALSA lib conf.c:3968:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such device
ALSA lib pcm.c:2143:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
aplay: main:550: audio open error: No such device

In my googling I saw the suggestion to add the normal user to the audio group.
I did this, but no change. I also tweaked the ownership of /dev/snd from root, root to
be root, audio. But, again no change.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Ed Clark

My bad. I hadn't logged out and logged back in as the normal user. I had just
left my one ssh session (as normal user) up while experimenting in another
ssh session (as root).

Fortunately after a bit more googling I ran across a hit that casually mentioned
"make sure to log out and log back in".

Ed
