Long time owner of a Kurobox and LS Pro, but never been much of a Linux guy, hence my unending gratitude to those who are, and who offer their assistance on this site.

I've just got a replacement LS420D (2x1TB) as I decided it was time for some redundancy and to migrate my main storage from my LS-DH500GL to this.

However

The new box has less than 250 hours on it, and I powered it up today to find that I have the dreaded 7 LED corrupted firmware error code. I *promise* I haven't been trying to hack the thing, roll my firmware or anything else outside my skillset (which would be most things in Linuxland...).

What I would like to know is, would it be feasible to get a Tarball of a working version of the "Firmware", which I have been told lives on the drive as opposed to in Flash (which is uBoot and other basics for bootstrapping, if I understand correctly?). With a Linux Live CD, I should be able to copy the tarball across, untar, set permissions, and try booting?

Would I need to do anything else to set IP to DHCP or change MAC addresses etc to personalize the Tarball firmware to my box?

If so, is anyone able to post a link to a LS420D compatible tarball that I can try out? Can I just use one of Buffalo's firmware images and pull files from that?

The Linkstation is still covered by warranty, but I really could do to get something up and running by Monday as my LS-DHGL is now beeping at me too and shuts down after 15 mins.

Any and all assistance very gratefully received!
