Last week I got my first Buffalo NAS LS441D ( have a few D-Link (no longer made) and a OMV box ).
While testing every thing went fine with the 1.83 firmware (not fond of the NAS Navigator but can live with it ).
Then the penny dropped - it does not turn the hard drives off when not in use ( hibernation ) I am lucky if it will be used 2 hours a week ( never the same two
It has a timed sleep but I need to turn it on with button if needed while sleeping ( I may as well just turn it off ).
I searched for a custom firmware have not found much.
I have found "acp_commander-156-win" and can ls.
I also found instruction to install U-Boot ( out of my comfort zone now, but I can follow instruction like a sheep ) from "sites.google.com/site/shihsung/88fxxxx-soc/ls441de"
Has any body tried this ?
I am assuming once debian wheezy is install ( if it can be and not much support left in it) I could then install OMV.
If so is lack of WOL / Hibernation a hardware or software restriction.
