I have a Buffalo TeraStation TS51210RH

Image

It has 12 HGST He8 8tb drives. 1st drive started getting bad sectors and died 2 weeks ago, the other died suddenly today. Both drives had less that 4,000 hours on them

I have the NAS in a closet because the power supply is loud AF, the NAS has never sent a notification that it was over heating. Can heat be killing these drives anyway? If not any ideas what might be killing them?

have you ssh or telnet, then check the temperature of any drive with smartctl

i think there is no service to check the temperature
