I just bought a new LS410D, and I cannot get ssh working.

acp_commander_gui works to reset the root password, and to give me a single command line (using the -c facility), but not for ssh.

The default format for /etc/sshd_config
has changed slightly so that the standard edits don't work, e.g.
#PermitRootLogin no

is both set to no and commented out, so the standard edit doesn't work. It needs to be
PermitRootLogin yes

there is no line
HostKey /etc/apache/server.key

What I completely fail to do is to get /etc/init.d/sshd.sh to execute at all, with any option, and yes it is set
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root root 1733 Apr 14 2015 /etc/init.d/sshd.sh
so I am stuck.

There is something very strange going on, 'date' says that its is 2007 and whatever I do I can't change that,
Sat Nov 3 21:27:40 GMT 2007
but the dates as used in the published fileserver are fine.

My new Linkstation (I have several older ones too) is a LS410D(LS-M) single drive 4TB machine.

Linux version 3.3.4 (root@buildsrv1) (gcc version 4.6.2 (Linaro GCC branch-4.6.2. Marvell GCC 201201-883.01c949de) ) #1 Fri Jun 19 18:04:05 JST 2015
CPU: Marvell PJ4Bv7 Processor [561f5811] revision 1 (ARMv7), cr=10c53c7d

with firmware
VERSION=1.81
SUBVERSION=HDD 0.03
PRODUCTID=0x00000000
BUILDDATE=2015/06/19 19:27:10

I fixed this by being more diligent with sshd_config and with fixing an entry in /etc/nas_feature

/etc/nas_feature
says
SUPPORT_SFTP=0
and you need to change it to
SUPPORT_SFTP=1

otherwise the script '/etc/init.d/sshd.sh start' will quit before it does anything or produces any output.

In /etc/sshd_config
I explicitly set:
HostKey /etc/apache/server.key
PasswordAuthentication yes
PermitEmptyPasswords yes
UsePAM no
PermitUserEnvironment yes
(I don't know how many of these were vital)
and it worked: I now have ssh access. :D

I did all those using the single command line capability in acp_commander_gui

I lost a lot of time to enable ssh
i can ssh to nas LS410D but reboot i can't ssh.
FIX
If you ssh on for reboot NAS .

vi /etc/init.d/sshd.sh
change ${SUPPORT_SFTP}" = "0" -> ${SUPPORT_SFTP}" = "1" :up:

reboot NAS, sshd always ON
