Since updating to firmware 1.81 my LS421DE with a 3TB WD Red and a 2 TB WD Red hangs regularly. It happens when writing data or extracting data on one of the drives or watching movies via DLNA. The access on the drives is lost and turning the LS421 off on the back doesnt work. It doesnt turn off even after 15 minutes or so. So I have to turn it of, by removing the power cord. I had problems like this every once in a while before, but now it is almost all the time, even when not using the disks, it happens after a while.

Has anyone else these problems after the firmware update?

Hi metty,

You are not alone!

There are few people reported hang issue after update to v1.81 including myself. I didn't run any program at all. The system hang after a couple days in operation. The power switch does not restart it. I had to pull the power plug to restart it!

V1.80 also had the same bug. I revert back to v1.34. The system has been running for 7 days without disappearing in my network.

It is a shame! Buffalo has fixed the USB drive recognition issue on v1.81, but the firmware has a serious bug preventing from normal use...!

Hi Metty,

1) Google & find v1.34 package
2) Open & edit "LSUpdater" configuration setting [Flags] VersionCheck from "1" to "0".
3) Run LSUpdater application

All the best!

Try it out! Come back if you run into issues.

After pulling the plug and restarting the once again hanging Linkstation I reverted to 1.34 like you described and now I have to see if now the hang issue is history.

Since the downgrade, the Linkstation is up and running with no hangs.

Hi, just came across this post.
I have exactly the same problem, my LS421DE hangs after anything from 20mins to 24 hrs, again the power switch does not work, can only pull the power out.
I would happily downgrade to v1.34 in order to get my NAS working again but the problem is i've googled it but can't find the firmware file. Does anyone have a link to the file so I can download it.

Thanks

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem and solve it by going back to 1.34.
Same problems is also reported on other forum.
All people who have this problem should report to Buffalo support so maybe they will do something.
In my last exchange with them they ask me to send the log file after crash. But I don't want to update again to 1.81.
They should be able to make test them selve...
