I have tried to look for the answer on both wiki (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/AMule:_The_all-platform_eMule_client) and forum... but I still have no idea how to do it properly especially when I tried apt-get, I cannot get it to run, and amule cannot be found under the package list using ipkg.

On this wiki page (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Category:LS-VL), aMule is included under "Available packages". I have updated my ipkg, but still it cannot find it. Is there something I need to do?

Please kindly help? Many thanks!

P.S.: I am using stock firmware, and accessing it over putty. I want to make fewest changes possible... since I am a newbie and don't want to brick my linkstation without enough experience...

I finally got it installed, but I had 2 version of optware cs05/cs08 installed and my transmission fail to work anymore. To fix it, I flashed with the stock FW (download from buffalo website) and reinstalled cs08q1armel to have amule installed using "ipkg install amule".

However, now I am having the problem of configure the amuleweb password properly. I can access the web interface by going to <nas ip address>:4711 on my browser. However, on PuTTY, it says "No password specified, login will not be allowed. Processing request [redirected]: login.php" whenever I tried to submit my password.

I following the instruction here: https://wiki.debian.org/aMule to create the password...
but it still doesn't work. I tried to use vi to edit the password field in /root/.aMule/remote.conf manually, but still it doesn't work.

To summarize...
Code:
ipkg install amule
cd /root/.aMule
vi amule.conf

Edit "amule.conf" with vi, and change "AcceptExternalConnections==1"

Code:
amuleweb --write-config --host=localhost --password=<webpassword> --admin-pass=<amulepasswod>
amuled -f
amuleweb

Now, open <nas ip address>:4711 on browser, for my LinkStation Pro VL it is at 192.168.1.2,
Code:
192.168.1.2:4711

The aMule web login interface shows up properly, but enter my <webpassword>... and login failed...

Could someone please shed some light to the problem I am facing? Thanks a bunch!!!!

I've got it working!!! Just to share~

Code:
cd /root/.aMule
vi amule.conf

Under [WebServer], edit the following lines:

OLD:
Code:
Enabled=0
Path=/mnt/disk/.optware/bin/amuleweb

NEW:
Code:
Enabled=1
Path=/mnt/disk1/.optware/bin/amuleweb

Press Esc, type : x to save the file!
Run,

Code:
amuled -f

Enjoy!!

PROBLEM 0:

The question I have now is... how to make amule to load at boot-time.
I know it as something to do with the scripts in "/opt/etc/init.d", but how do you make it work?

I tried to edit "/opt/etc/S57amuled" or creating "/opt/etc/S57amuled.sh" and add "/opt/bin/amuled -f" into the file, and I did "chmod 777 /opt/etc/S57amuled.sh",, but it doesn't seem to work... any suggestions?

another 3 problems I am facing...

1) It seems like I cannot search for files on the web interface, is that something to do with the search server address? But I don't seem to be able to find anything like that under "configuration" of the web interface... do I have to do some modification in "amule.conf"?

2) I cannot connect from aMule Remote GUI, the problem seems to be I am running an older aMule on my LinkStation Pro VL, but the aMule Remote GUI is the latest on optware. When I run aMule Remote GUI, it says "Connection Failed. Unable to connect to <NAS IP>:4712 External Connection: Access denied because: Invalid protocol version. (0x0204 != 0x0203)". Any idea where can I download an earlier version of aMule Remote GUI for my PC/Mac? Or else, how could I upgrade the aMule on LinkStation? I was looking at the version number on the aMule Daemon,
Code:
amuled -v
, it shows aMuleD SVN compiled with v2.8.12 (OS:Linux). When I look at the cs08q1armel software list (http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/cs08q1armel/cross/stable/), it shows:

amule_2.3.1rc1-2_arm.ipk

Which is the same as the version of my aMule Daemon GUI. Any idea what the problem is?

3) I cannot change the incoming and temp directory for my files. I tried to manually modify "amule.conf", but it changes it back as soon as amuled runs. Why is that and what can/should be done?

Thanks a lot...

Problem 1 and 3 solved.

I just found out that I was able to search for file, the problem was just that amuleweb do not automatically refresh the page after search results, to see the result, just click on one of the button on top and go back to search to see them.

Also, a detail summary of "amule.conf" variable definition and defining server list using "addresses.dat" and "Serverlist=1" is given by GnFi here: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/an-amule-guide-maybe-p.32795

Again, 2 problems still remain...

0) Auto starting "amuled -f" at boot time
2) Connecting aMule Remote GUI to amuled on LinkStation

Please, if you got an idea let me know... thx!

P.S. For server list in "addresses.dat", I have used the following...
http://www.gruk.org/server.met
http://peerates.net/peerates/certifiedservers.met
http://ed2k.2x4u.de/v1s4vbaf/max/server.met

0)
not /opt/etc/S57amuled
use
/opt/etc/init.d/S57amuled

read 5.2 from

My apology, I actually mean "/opt/etc/init.d/S57amuled", it was a typo...
By the way, the following is what was originally written in S57amuled by ipkg:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/opt/bin:/opt/sbin

start() {
        set backup=$HOME
        echo "Starting amuled..."
        echo "Configuration's setting are located in /opt/share/amule"
        export HOME=/opt/share/amule
        /opt/bin/amuled -f
        export HOME=$backup
        echo "done"
}

stop() {
        echo -n "Shutting down amuled... "
        killall amuled
        killall amuleweb
        echo "done"
}

case "$1" in
        start)
                start
                ;;
        stop)
                stop
                ;;
        restart)
                stop
                sleep 1
                start
                ;;
        *)
                echo "Usage: $0 (start|stop|restart)"
                exit 1
                ;;
esac

I even tried adding the line: "/opt/bin/amuled -f" into the above file or creating a new file call "S96amuled.sh" with the "amuled -f" command to force it to load, but failed.

Problem 0 solved!

Previously, I have edited the "amuled.conf, addresses.dat, remote.conf" in the
Code:
/root/.aMule
root access aMule configuration folder instead of the optware boot-load aMule configuration folder
Code:
/opt/share/amule/.aMule

Therefore, without the proper configuration files "amuled.conf, remote.conf" at boot-time, aMule was not able to start properly.

The solution is simple, just follow the same procedure I have mentioned earlier, but inside the "/opt/share/amule/.aMule" folder instead of "/root/.aMule"~!

Now, only one problem left... HOW TO GET THE AMULE REMOTE GUI WORKING?

Or... anybody have any idea how to upgrade aMule 2.3.1rc1 to the official aMule 2.3.1?
The aMule provided in Optware cs08q1armel is version 2.3.1rc1... and I have no idea how to upgrade or manually install the newer version. Any suggestions?

I tried to download the tarball from here and install it: http://amule.forumer.com/problem-using-amule-on-buffalo-nas-t2343264.html
But when I do the "./configure" command, it doesn't work. I think it is for Debian instead of a custom linux running an ARM processor on a NAS... ?!
However, the good news is that the Android version of aMule Remote is working with 2.3.1rc1: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... mote&hl=en

And here is my post on the amule forum:

Hi, i made an amule 2.3.1 ipk for cs08q1armel.
If you dare you can download it from
amule_2.3.1-2_arm.ipk
or from
http://www.filedropper.com/amule231-2arm_1
or from
http://www.sendspace.com/file/wkxj9b

Save your amule confs, stop amuled, remove you amule ipk, install this one, overwrite conf files with your previous ones the start amuled.
I'm using it with amulegui 2.3.1 in linux mint and it seems to work.
