I have two LS-WVL and a CyberPower 550va UPS model WSX550G and in system>power management>UPS settings "synchronize with UPS connected to this Link Station" that option bubble is grayed out.
I tried two UPS units and both of my NAS boxes and a second USB cable. I also verified using windows 7 and 8 that the UPS units work.

Firmware 1.65

I found out Buffalo only supports APC and Orion USB units. But I also read there are set standards for so called "HID" USB devices that MS helped develop and this was done some time ago.
So what gives with Buffalo? I've found this about "activating USB support on a TS Live".
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Act ... on_TS_Live
I proceeded making the changes but testing did not work and the selection for synchronizing is still grayed out.
Another wiki here has a how to "Install a UPS (nut)". But the first prerequisite is "Install 2.6 Kernal to get the "New USB HID modules". It goes on to say that "FreeLink is already using a 2.6 kernel.

Here's the wiki link

Are there any "how to's" starting from a off the shelf LS-WVL/ unit with 1.65 firmware? I'm not a total nub on Linux but need detailed instructions.

I found my same question on a Qnap NAS forum asked in 2008 and in early 2009 and it was supported. But I've never heard of Qnap but found their home page.

UPDATE: I found a used APC UPS and got the same grayed out "Sync with UPS".
So I made the changes in the link above about "Activating a UPS on a TS Live" and then at last I had the option of syncing and now both the UPS connected UPS and the second shutdown on a power outage.
