Hope this is the right place. Please redirect if it's a problem.

My linkstation is a couple of years old, on a home network mostly PCs with W7, and has been fine. But now it does not respond, passwords won't work from the NAS Navigator and any attempt to access settings from the browser gives ERR_CONNECTION_RESET on Chrome.

A few weeks ago it went wrong but I used a utility to flash new code (standard not code not open source - wayyyy too complicated for me) and it seemed to recover, but now the drive has gone again.

NAS Navigator2 can see it and insists its IP address is 192.168.2.100.

Attempting to SSH -vvv 192.168.2.100 it's "connection refused". (This is presumably why all admin functions from NAS Nav2 all fail and claim it's a password error.)

Of course this unit has no hardware reset, only software reset, and I can't get to the settings page to do it because it doesn't respond to the browser.

(I'm an experienced web developer so I have some clue, but this is outside my knowledge.)

LS-XL2B9, firmware 1.71

I was thinking I might flash it again since that fixed it last time, then maybe we can get the data off it.

Turns out I can't reflash the drive (even in Debug mode) because the password is screwed.
