Hello guys!

I know there are many posts like this, but I'm at a point where I can't help myself anymore.
I would like to install several things and tweaks to my new linkstation ls-wxl (like plex media server and the ability to mount more than one usb drive)

I tried this to get root ssh access:
Code:
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw mypassword -c "ls -l /"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t NAS_IP -ip NAS_IP -pw adminpassword -c "(echo newrootpass;echo newrootpass)|passwd"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t NAS_IP -ip NAS_IP -pw adminpassword -c "sed -i 's/UsePAM yes/UsePAM no/g' /etc/sshd_config"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t NAS_IP -ip NAS_IP -pw adminpassword -c "sed -i 's/PermitRootLogin no/PermitRootLogin yes/g' /etc/sshd_config"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t NAS_IP -ip NAS_IP -pw adminpassword -c "/etc/init.d/sshd.sh restart"

all I get is this:
Code:
macbookpro:Downloads emse$ java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw mypw -c "ls -l /"
ACP_commander out of the nas-central.org (linkstationwiki.net) project.
Used to send ACP-commands to Buffalo linkstation(R) LS-PRO.

WARNING: This is experimental software that might brick your linkstation!

Using random connID value = F765C0288B8D

Trying to authenticate EnOneCmd...   ACP_STATE_OK
Trying to authenticate with admin password...   ACP_STATE_PASSWORD_ERROR
>ls -l /

Changeing IP:   ACP_STATE_PASSWORD_ERROR

I get the line "Trying to authenticate with admin password ERROR" with every single one of those prompts, so I looked for another possibility. I tried this:
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=21497

Installed the shell, cd'd to the /etc/pam.d and punched in ls -l , but there is no sshd, so I can't edit the files
Can you help me? I would like to preserve my data on the box, but it wouldn't be to much a problem to swap in another drive...

Thanks in advance!

Did you changed the password of user "admin"?
If yes, revert it to "password" and retry (and do
NOT use names for "-t" and "-ip"; use the real IP
address).

I changed it back to password and replaced the domain with the ip, still no luck
Code:
macbookpro:Downloads emse$ java -jar acp_commander.jar -t 192.168.178.23 -ip 192.168.178.23 -pw password -c "(echo newrootpass;echo newrootpass)|passwd"
ACP_commander out of the nas-central.org (linkstationwiki.net) project.

The first "ACP_STATE_PASSWORD_ERROR" is an indication, that
the password of user "admin" is not "password".
Did you verify, that "password" is really the password of user
"admin"?
Did you restart the box?

The password of admin is password (I assume it's the same I have to use to log in to the configuration and to mount the NAS under OS X)
I have restarted the linkstation several times, but the same error persists

Sorry, but I never saw this error message when the password
was correct.
Seems to be a Mac specific problem. ???

Hi a3rosol,

I had the exact same problem. The version of ACP_commander you are using doesn't work! (it gives the bogus password message)

Version 0.4.0 (beta) doesn't work
Version 0.4.1 (beta) does work

I have just confirmed this again on my system.

Awesome, thank you very much! :)

Edit:
Code:
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "(echo password;echo password)|passwd"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "sed -i 's/UsePAM yes/UsePAM no/g' /etc/sshd_config"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "sed -i 's/PermitRootLogin no/PermitRootLogin yes/g' /etc/sshd_config"
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "/etc/init.d/sshd.sh restart"

I've fired those commands and after every command, I got ACP_STATE_OK.
Nonetheless, I can't login with "ssh nas.local" and the password "password". I get
Code:
macbookpro:Downloads emse$ ssh nas.local
emse@nas.local's password:
Permission denied, please try again.

HAve I forgotten something?

Yes, you need to delete some lines out of sshd.sh
Code:
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "sed -i '15,19d' /etc/init.d/sshd.sh"
DO NOT run this command more than once!

Then run:
Code:
java -jar acp_commander.jar -t nas.local -ip nas.local -pw password -c "/etc/init.d/sshd.sh restart"
and you should be all set.

I've figured out where the problem was:
Code:
emse@nas.local's password:

I tried to logon with my mac's username :D

the correct command on os x would be: ssh -l root <ip>

thanks for your help! :)

That's good news.

FYI - The change I mentioned to sshd.sh is only required if the feature set of your NAS doesn't include SFTP support (like my LS-XL)
