Hi All,

i got a Linkstation Mini (WSX1.0TL/R1) and installed Debian on it. I used the wiki-article (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Debian_Lenny_on_LS-WXL) to do that.

The installation works proper. I got following output after the installation and ssh login:
Code:
nas:~# uname -a
Linux nas 2.6.31.8-svn22059 #67 Mon Sep 13 09:42:55 JST 2010 armv5tel GNU/Linux

But the next step ("Building the Debian kernel") of the wiki-article doesn't work to me.

First I tried the "Native compilation". I did every step of the wiki-article ... indeed, the LS worked approx. 1,5h to compile the kernel.
Unfortunately, i couldn't enjoy my new kernel after reboot, because the LS-Mini didn't boot :-(

I set a static IP to the LS-Mini - so I thought, OK, let's try a port scan, maybe there is a sign of life ... but nothing :-/

After reverting the uImage the LS-Mini boot again with the old kernel.

Second I tried the "Cross compilation". I used Ubuntu 10.04 and the tool chain from CodeSourcery ... the kernel was compiled in 10 min, WOW
And again after replacing the uImage and modules ... the LS-Mini didn't boot proper :-(

Just for the record: I didn't install the blstools because of the potential disruption.

Unfortunately, I got no serial output. The wiki-article (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Add_a_Serial_port_to_the_LS_MINI) doesn't work.

Maybe the sample config or patch doesn't work with the LS-Mini
Code:
wget http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=YKpzXfey -O patch.lswxl
wget http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=WmKTfEGb -O config.lswxl

Has anyone any advice?
Please help :-/

:biglol: I solved the problem:
after comparing the
Code:
dmesg
output between the LS-WXL and LS-WSX I replaced within the file patch.lswxl all function and symbol names from "lswxl" to "lswssx" or "LSWXL" to "LSWSSX" and run the modified patch like in the wiki-article (see above) described.

Now the new kernel boots without problems
Code:
nas:~# uname -a
Linux nas 2.6.32 #1 Thu Mar 3 13:34:40 CET 2011 armv5tel GNU/Linux

Hope it helps :-)
