Post subject:  Visible to Windows machine - not visible to Mac

This was all working nicely on my network and now seems to have stopped working. From a Windows 7 machine I can use a browser and view the admin screens using the drive's IP address. If I try the same on the Mac using the same IP I cannot see the drive. Backups are now not working for the Mac machines on my network. Any ideas?

Not, if you do not provide more information. "Not working" is not
helpful.
What IP address and netmask does your Linkstation have?
What IP and netmask for your Win7 PC and your Mac?
How are the items connected (cable, wireless, hub, switch,
router)?
Provide as much information as possible when asking for help.

I don't believe that more information is going to give you any clues - the netmask for all machines is the same and standard - fixed IP address set for each machine - PC and Mac connected wirelessly to a modem/router and the drive connected by ethernet cable to the modem/router. This has been working for nearly a year since I first set it up and it has recently stopped working. The only thing that has happened would be for the Mac OS to have been updated as part of the usual software updated processes. Logged into the drive from the PC and the IP is the same as it has been since I first set it up.

What is odd is that I can navigate to the drive from the PC but not from the Mac. I was hoping someone might have experienced a similar problem and would be able to point to probable causes.

AFP or Samba (Cifs)
If you use Samba this is not a Linkstation problem.

I have tried connecting to the drive by it's name and IP address in Finder using AFP and SMB - it cannot be located and I cannot even get a response if I ping the IP - on the Windows machine I can see the drive, ping it and use it.

this is not a Linkstation problem

Possibly not, but I thought that someone here might possibly have experienced the same issue. I am at a loss to understand why the linkstation would be visible to a PC but not to a Mac - surely if I can ping a network device from one machine then I should be able to ping it from the other machine, given that all devices are set up in the same way on the network. If an OSX update has caused then problem then I would have expected to find others with the same problem but this does not appear to be the case.

Looked into it a bit more. Turned off the firewall on the modem/router - everything worked - turned the firewall back on and everything carried on working. No changes made to the firewall - just turned it off and on. Strange and none the wiser as to why this problem happened or why this action resolved it - thanks for trying to help though!
