Hello. Is there a way to update to the latest version of Transmission? The one in the IPKG package is still at version 2.84.

Also, I experimented by running the commands referring to installing optware (in the guide to installing Transmission to a Buffalo NAS) and tried one of the addresses mentioned here:

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Transmission

but it did not work. I tried re-installing optware but the ipkg command is no longer recognized.

Code:
rm -rf /mnt/disk1/.optware

cd /tmp

wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/cs08q1armel/cross/stable/ls-mvkw-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh

sh ./ls-mvkw-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh

mv /etc/init.d/optware /etc/init.d/rc.optware

ipkg update

The transmission updates worked until v2.84, after which I received no new versions.

Months after, the HD crashed, so I replaced it and reinstalled the system, mod, etc. Transmission worked but no new versions.

After that, I decided to play around with the ipkg and must have done something wrong. I tried to reinstall it but it no longer worked. However, Transmission still works, although I have to run transmission-daemon whenever I boot the device.

flash the mod fw with transmission 2.84
http://www.tomatosoft.hu/gadgets/portfolio/buffalo-linkstation-plex/

install optware
with a fresh firmware sthis should work

then update to 2.92
Code:
ipkg install gcc make p7zip openssl-dev libevent libcurl-dev zlib

ln -s /opt/lib/libevent-2.0.so.5 /usr/lib/libevent-2.0.so.5

mkdir /mnt/disk1/share/tmp ; cd /mnt/disk1/share/tmp

rm /opt/bin/wget

wget --no-check-certificate https://download.transmissionbt.com/files/transmission-2.92.tar.xz

7za x *.xz ; tar xvf *.tar ; cd transmission-2.92

./configure --disable-mac --disable-nls OPENSSL_CFLAGS=-I/opt/include OPENSSL_LIBS="-L/opt/lib -lssl -lcrypto -ldl" LIBEVENT_CFLAGS=-I/opt/include LIBEVENT_LIBS="-L/opt/lib -levent" ZLIB_CFLAGS=-I/opt/include ZLIB_LIBS="-L/opt/lib -lz"

make

make install

cp  /usr/local/bin/transmission-daemon /usr/local/transmission/latest/bin/

Thanks for the help; I very much appreciate it.

I was able to flash the device and it works correctly: I can log in and access the NAS settings using the web browser. I can also see the folders and contents using Windows Explorer. However, I'm unable to telnet because I keep getting a "network error: connection refused" message.

I read the FAQ at

http://www.tomatosoft.hu/gadgets/firmwarefaq/

and it says that the new port is 2222. I went to the network services setting in the NAS web menu and enabled "SSH and SFTP for root on port 2222," then at Putty, used the following settings

host name: NAS (I also tried the IP address of the device, 192.168.1.145)
port: 2222 (I also tried 22 and 23)
connection type: SSH (I also tried telnet)

but could not log in.

Finally, I noticed that there's a Transmission and Keep Alive feature in the web interface. Should I be activating those?

you have to enable transmission, if you have to use it

you can try port 2222
or use my howto to enable ssh on port 22

Thanks again. I followed

http://forum.nas-hilfe.de/buffalo-techn ... t2468.html

and was able to login using SSH at port 22.

Unfortunately, I tried to install optware and got the same problems (as mentioned above).

I also activated Transmission from the web interface, and it worked at the start. After that, I got "connection refused" errors after a few minutes. Network keep-alive is enabled.

Perhaps I should erase the hard drive contents and reinstall the firmware. Is the factory reset function in the web interface good enough, or will I have to follow the steps I described in this thread?

viewtopic.php?f=71&t=27287

At least this new firmware is much easier to use because it can set up Transmission from the web browser.
