Hi

The USB attached printer on my Linkstation Live CHL V2 has stopped working since we moved house.

Printer is OK (it prints when connected directly to a PC).

According to the Extensions/Printserver web settings, the print server is enabled. I've tried deleting the queue via the web page.

On the PC, the queue shows as "lp on LINKSTATION - Deleting".

The USB port on Linkstation is OK as I can see files on a USB stick.

Anybody any ideas on how to start diagnosing this? I am comfortable at the command prompt.

Thanks in advance

Wild guess:
The IP address of the LS has changed and the configuration in
Windows is not adapted to that change.

Thanks for the reply, but IP has stayed the same.

Would you expect to be able to print direct from Linkstation command line?

e.g. echo "Help" > lp

This doesn't generate any printout, but it does not error either.

Shouldn't that be /dev/lp ?
Is "lpr" available? If yes, you can try:
echo "Test" | lpr

This is what I have in /dev:

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 17 19:38 usb
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Feb 17 19:38 usbdisk1 -> sdb
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Feb 17 19:38 usblp0 -> usb/lp0

This is what I get from testing the printer:

root@LinkStation:~# echo "hello" | lpr

error 'link error 253' with ack 'ACK_FAIL'
sending str '^Bmissingprinter' to missingprinter@localhost
error msg: 'spool queue for 'missingprinter' does not exist on server LinkStati

error msg: 'check for correct printer name or you may need to run'

Look at output of "dmesg" of your LS, if your printer was
detected. Look also into /var/messages.

Try a search for "linux usb lp0" with your favourite search
engine and have a look for solutions.

But refuses to print.

Have googled as you suggested, but can't make any progress.

From a web site, I found by searching for missingprinter@localhost:
Quote:
Default Printer When No Printcap

If you do not have a /etc/printcap file, then LPRng will use the default_printer and default_remote_host fallback values set in the /etc/lpd.conf file or by the compile time defaults.

Using the fallback values is usually not a desirable event and may indicate that you have a misconfigured host, so the fallback values are usually set by administrators to missingprinter@localhost to provoke an annoying message for users.

So you have some kind of misconfiguration on your box and the
name of the "print queue" used told you that.
You "just" have to find the reason, why the fallback happens.

thanks for your responses, but I have given up and am using an old router with a built in print server.

Very strange though. All I did was pick the LS up and move it to a new house :?
