I have my Linkstation set up as a DLNA server which works fine, except it won't stream MP4 files. I'm using an Xbox 360 and a Sony Blu Ray player to stream to, and neither finds recognisable files in folders containing MP4s. Seems odd as if I copy MP4 files on to a flash drive and plug it in to the Xbox or Blu Ray, they play fine. Any ideas please?

Thanks

I have the exact same issue. I had my mp4 files on a seagate drive. My sony bluray found the drive, and registered the files as mpeg and played all beautifully. I bought the buffalo for additional space and moved the files to it. The Sony now sees them as mp4 and won't play any movies, though for some reason it has no issue playing many of the episode mp4's from tv DVD's that I also converted. They are identical in how they were converted. The main issue even with those is the time it takes to load the files. Previously they loaded in 10-15 seconds. Now whey they DO run, it takes almost a minute to load up.

It's really bizarre. Firmware?! It's not a limitation of DLNA then?

the playstation 3 doesn't like to play some filetypes over upnp. but there are workarounds for this problem.
i don't know which dlna server is the default in the original firmware and i don't have any experience with it.
