I try to follow this guide: http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Debian_Squeeze_on_%27V%27_and_%27X%27_Series_(LS-WXL_and_others) to install debian squeeze on my LS.CHL v2

But when I execute this command: "apt-get install --no-install-recommends openssh-server" I get this error:

E: Command line option --no-install-recommends is not understood

Any suggestions?

..Jesper

Why are you not following this guide specifically for your hardware?
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Deb ... n_LS-CHLv2

Just do "apt-get install openssh-server" without that option. It's not important.

When I try this, I get the following output

root@Nas:~# apt-get install openssh-server

W: Couldn't stat source package list http://172.16.37.216 buffalo-marvell-armel-sdk2p0/main Packages (/usr/local/apt/var/lists/172.16.37.216:8080_update_terastation%5fx_dists_buffalo-marvell-armel-sdk2p0_main_binary-arm_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Couldn't find package openssh-server

I have also tried to run apt-get update

root@Nas:~# apt-get update

It seems that you are not in the debian chroot. Please follow the _right_ guide from the beginning or try a prepared rootfs.

I am now trying to follow the right guide :-)

I took out the harddrive and booted my PC in Knoppix.

I then try to execute this command:
apt-get install uboot-mkimage

but get an error: "unable to locate package uboot-mkimage "

how can I get around this error? ( i am really a linux newbie :-( )

You could try a "apt-get update" first. But you don't need to do create the empty inird yourself. Take that one http://neboola.de/fjen/lschlv2/kernel/i ... falo.empty
