I wanted to backup my Linux system to my Linkstation (LS-CHLv2) in a way that kept ownership details (UIDs). NFS would be my first choice; I've found that I can do a reasonable imitation using sshfs over ssh - with thanks to the many posters on this board and various other websites. I use ssh keypair authentication rather than password authentication.
I wrote some notes for myself that I've tidied up for general consumption. I've also included details of how to do 'snapshot' style backups, so that duplicate files in separate backups only exist once on the disk to save space.
The instructions are probably fairly generic, but I don't have any other varieties of Linkstation to check this with. If it works for you please let me know here or via http://www.acrconsulting.co.uk/contact.html
Anyway, here's the document, http://free.acrconsulting.co.uk/docs/Bu ... %20SSH.pdf
Feedback etc welcome.
