Thanks. I followed the instructions and set things to manual:

1. turned off uPNP in the router;

2. added the IP address of the router and the port (I used 55555) in single port forwarding in the router;

3. turned off "enable port forwarding" and "peek random port on daemon launch" in Transmission.

CanYouSeeMe says "success," i.e., the port can be seen.

The "test port" button in Transmission says, however, that the incoming port is closed.

???

You have to forward udp and tcp to the NAS not to the router.

What is your problem with my example?

My nas is NAS (Shonk FW 1.54-Mod1)
The rules are Transmission UDP and Transmission TCP

Post a Picture of your rules!

Sorry! I meant the IP address of the NAS.

Here's a screen cap of the router config:

Transmission says the port is closed but CanYouSeeMe says that it's open.

Did further tests by installing uTorrent and Transmission for Win in my PC using different ports. CanYouSeeMe says that both ports are open. uTorrent says that its assigned port is open, but Transmission for Win says that its assigned port is closed.

Reread

https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/PortClosed

There's one sentence that states the "closed" message may appear if the port check website is down. This is probably the case for me since CanYouSeeMe says that the port is open.

Done. Telnet and FTP working fine.

Tried the same thing in another PC connected to another line of the same ISP: installed uTorrent and Transmission for Windows in one PC. uTorrent said its port is open, but Transmission says that its port is closed. CanYouSeeMe says both ports are open.

It's possible that the site used by Transmission to check the port can't be accessed by the ISP. I guess as long as CanYouSeeMe says the port is open, then it is.

I followed the instructions provided (thanks for them) but get 'connection refused' from the gui and get unable to connect when trying to go via the web

the nas is firmware 1.54 updated to the custom version to enable telnet

I don't remember if I experienced the same problem, but I switched to the workgroup used by the NAS. My PC used "workgroup" and the customized firmware uses "LAN".

I had to buy a new router (D-Link DIR-655) because the old one stopped working, and for some reason the port forwarding doesn't work with Transmission in the NAS or uTorrent in the desktop. So I enabled uPnP, and the Transmission speed is fast again, with the uTorrent port opened successfully.

Just a quick question. Can I install Transmission on the LS-CHL (LinkStation Live with BitTorrent, LSLIVEv3)? If so, will these same instructions work?

I can actually confirm that it works myself!

I currently have the modded firmware v. 1.54 installed. I'm not sure if improvements might help me with slow torrent speeds (because there might be something wrong with the ISP again), but just in case, is it possible to upgrade to the latest modded firmware without losing any data in the hard drive?
