Me myself had some troubles installing Transmission, and I wanted to help others in my situation.

First of all, read this guide:
http://translate.google.de/translate?hl ... -t749.html

But also have one window open without the Google translate since it distorts some of the messages in the translation. Problably the best way is to have some German friend translate it. Ok lets continue...

1. Connect to the linkstation web interface and restore to factory defaults under "Settings" if I remember correctly.
2. Download Shonks firmware 1.37 mod1 and install with LSupdate.exe
3. Download Putty to connect with telnet
4. In Putty, connect to "nas" using telnet (the mod changed from "192.168...." IP to just simple "nas").
5. connect as "root" and no password
6. When connected. Type "passwd" and then it asks you to set your own password for the login "root".
7. Copy paste each line from section 4 in the german guide mentioned above. In putty you just right-click to paste. REMEMBER TO COPY FROM THE ORIGINAL GERMAN VERSION, AND NOT THE TRANSLATED.
8. Follow with section 5 until 5.4.1
9. When you are at 5.4.1 make the same changes as mentioned in the guide, but I had to change these lines to:
"download-dir": "mnt/disk1/share/downloads"
"incomplete-dir": "mnt/disk1/share/incomplete"
"Rpc-whitelist-enabled": false,
"Rpc-whitelist" "0.0.0.0",
Dont forget to create your own password for the login "Transmission".
10. Save by pressing F2, and then enter or press "S".
11. Quit by pressing F10.
12. in putty, type "reboot"
13. When the Linkstation has rebooted (be patient), connect to the Transmission webUI with "http://nas:9091", login: "Transmission", password: the password you selected in stage "9".
14. Follow section 6 in the german guide if you want to install the remote GUI, which I recommend!

Good luck. Hope this is of help to people that got confused as me...

Thanks, najk.

In my case, I had to set Rpc-whitelist to "*.*.*.*" and Rpc-whitelist-enabled to "true", following Oxygen's guide, because I kept getting a 403 when I accessed http://nas:9091.

Also, I noticed that when I logged in to http://nas, I had to enter the default password for admin, even when I set the restore to factory default not to change the password.

I saw that after installing FW 1.54 mod, the workgroup is "lan" (I use "workgroup"), so I switched to that workgroup to speed up access to the NAS drive from my PC.

Thanks everyone, I too was having issues where the built-in Bittorrent was not downloading anything. There are very few torrents that work with the built-in Bittorrent so you should install Transmission. I'm running Shonk's 1.54 firmware and I got transmission to work but I used the original settings from the German translation and I did not reset my NAS back to factory settings. Here's a quick rundown of steps to take so you don't have to keep opening documents all over the place.

1. ssh or telnet into your NAS
2. Run the code below exactly as you see it.

Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/cs08q1armel/cross/stable/ls-mvkw-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh
sh ./ls-mvkw-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh
mv /etc/init.d/optware /etc/init.d/rc.optware
ipkg update

ipkg install transmission mc screen
ipkg update
ipkg upgrade

echo '/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /root/.config/transmission-daemon' >/opt/etc/init.d/S95transmission.sh
chmod 755 /opt/etc/init.d/S95transmission.sh
echo 'killall /opt/bin/transmission-daemon' >/etc/rc.d/extensions.d/K05transmission.sh
chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/extensions.d/K05transmission.sh

mkdir /mnt/disk1/share/downloads
chmod -R 777 /mnt/disk1/share/downloads
mkdir /mnt/disk1/share/incomplete
chmod -R 777 /mnt/disk1/share/incomplete

transmission-daemon

killall transmission-daemon
chmod 777 /root/.config/transmission-daemon/settings.json
screen mcedit /root/.config/transmission-daemon/settings.json

3. Modify the following settings in settings.json
Code:
"download-dir": "/mnt/disk1/share/downloads",
"incomplete-dir": "/mnt/disk1/share/incomplete",
"incomplete-dir-enabled": true,
"peer-port": 45678,
"rpc-authentication-required": true,
"rpc-password": "Enter-Your-Own-Password-Here",
"rpc-username": "Transmission",
"rpc-whitelist": "*.*.*.*",
"rpc-whitelist-enabled": true,
"umask": 0,

4. Reboot your NAS by typing "reboot"
5. Access the builtin Transmission web gui: http://NAS:9091

Note: Disable your built in Bittorrent client (via the GUI) if you desire to do so but you can leave it running if you wish. I chose to disable it to save on RAM and CPU utilization.

i have followed the above mentioned german guide using a stock bootstrapped 1.56 linkstation live chl 1tb.
The app works fine, no problems configuring it, launch and termination works fine aswell, but it refuses to autostart during system startup.

is there any way to test what part of the startup launch that fails in order to narrow down the possible fault?

i did notice one odd thing during the initial install of transmission, the /opt was empty.
I figured that the search path for the sym link was wrong (/mnt/disk1/.optware, some tuts talk about /mnt/array1/.optware), so i deleted the empty /opt and symlinked /mnt/disk1/.optware to /opt.
after that all opt installs started fine with just the command name (without the search path, witch it didnt do before the symlink change).

Thease are my steps taken since i upgraded to 1.56..

enabled ssh using apc commander

installed optware and bootstrapped following this tut: http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Ipk ... ers%29#ARM

followed the german tut: http://forum.discountnetz.com/buffalo-t ... -t749.html (paying attention to the f%&8 up code translation, copied from a non-translated page)

http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Ipk ... ers%29#ARM (tryed this as last resort, no difference)

for the time being i will settle with manual transmission launch but i´ll probably revert to the builtin torrent if i cant fix this soon..

This Howto is for LS DUO! You have talking about raid.

Do not use it on LS Live!

On LS-CHLV2 do not forget
Code:
mv /etc/init.d/optware /etc/init.d/rc.optware

it started!!! :D

I thought i followed the tuts to the letter, but after uninstalling and reinstalling the bootstrap and basicly followed the tutorial again, transmission somehow automaticly started during reboot!
the /opt is still light blue while the other folders in / are almost purple but i figure i can learn to live with that ;)
Thank you VERY much for your help!

Is anyone experiencing this issue?

UPnP is enabled in the router.

The Transmission listening port is set to 51413 and the port is not randomized. "Use port forwarding from my router" is enabled.

http://www.canyouseeme.org/ says that the port is open.

The download speed looks normal, although it goes up and down (e.g., 145k, then 22k around 15 sec later, then back up).

But in the "preferences | network" window, Transmission says the port is closed.

To check further, I installed uTorrent in the desktop and used another port. When I checked, uTorrent said that its port is opened, and http://www.canyouseeme.org/ confirms that.

Can UPNP open tcp and udp ?
I do not think so.
