Post subject:  Three questions from a newbie

I am altogether new to the field of Network Attached Storage. I am working with two Buffalo units and need answers to this:

1. How do I access the files backed up on the devices?
2. How do I back up files to the devices?
3. When I create a network share to the device, I am prompted to give a login and password. I try the ones for the network it's on and also the ones for the Buffalo itself, but neither works. What am I supposed to put?

I would be very grateful for any possible assistance. Thanks in advance.

Connect a share and use it with your backup program. To restore files you can use the windows explorer.

The easyest way is to create the same account on the nas, you are logged in on your windows.
same name and password
do not use spaces in the password or name

set rerstrictions on the share for the windows user

Thank you very much, but when I try that, I get a message that says "Create a folder named share" first. Where do I do that, using what path? Also, how do I give my new NAS user full administrative rights on the appliance?

this folder exists by factory default.
I you have delet this you can recreate it.
Read your manual.

there is only admin with password
you can not create a second admin2 on a linkstation

I have configured my linkstation years ago. i have never changed this config.
Its running.
So i have no need for a second admin.

Unfortunately, the Share folder in my case doesn't exist by default, and there's no option for creating a new one by that name. I did find and save the manual, but it directs me to a series of prompts and instructions that don't correspond to what I see when I go to the web interface. I verified that I'd entered the serial number accurately. My next recourse is to ask Buffalo for a new installation CD; I've been trying to work with the appliance without one.

I'm working with two: an HS-DH500GL and a LS-500GL. The manual is for the first one.

Many thanks. I think I've finally got it, now that I have the right manual and page. I appreciate your assistance.
