I have an LS-Q4.0TL/R5 which was purchased in early 2011. All four Seagate drives in it died in about a 45 day space earlier this year. I'm trying to restore it to use. I put two used (but functional) drives in it.

1. I can boot into EM Mode without difficulty.

2. Boot TFTP transfers uImage.buffalo and initrd.buffalo without issue.

3. NAS Navigator 2.56 sees it.

4. LSUpdater ver. 1.10 sees it. I select debug mode and UN-tick every box except "Do Not Check Versoin" and "Rebuild Partition Table" and click "UPDATE." It churns for a few seconds and then says, "Failed to Formatting. (ACP_STATE_FAILURE) Updating is aborted."

What can I do to get this unit restored to functioning order?

Did you removed all old partitions on the disks?
Buffalo can not deal with "fresh" disks, containing partitions
already, if the partition layout is not EXACTLY as expected.
If you started with blanked disks, remove one of the disks
and connect it to a PC. Look at the partition table of the disk.
Does it contain 6 partitions (first two have some size, third
and fourth are tiny, fifth is small and sixth is big)?
If yes, partitioning worked although an error message appeared.
Try to flash the firmware WITHOUT partitioning then.

if you want to erasure all the disks

try set the flag NoFormatting = 0

in LSUpdater.ini

I already had NoFormatting = 0 in LSUpdater.ini. This is my complete INI file:

Quote:
[Application]
Title = BUFFALO LS-QL/R5 Updater Ver.1.10
WaitReboot = 480
WaitFormat = 500
WaitFileSend = 300

[Target]
ProductID = 0x00004000
Name = LS-QL/R5

[Flags]
VersionCheck = 0
NoFormatting = 0

[SpecialFlags]
Debug = 1

However, I've also tried it with NoFormatting = 1. The result is the same both ways. It won't complete the process of formatting the discs.

I also took the discs out, put them in a PC and deleted all partition info and tried that. The result was the same.

Buffalo official firmware has a bug and has done since around 1.37 i think
where it cant repartition drives without failing

Use mine it repartitions fine

If you really want stock

Repartition it with 1.65 mod1a let it do its thing
then force flash 1.65 stock over it

Btw your seagates most prob died as they park the heads every few seconds
there's no way to turn the feature off with seagates
but i send a command to seagates on every boot to disable it on my mod
i have 12tb of seagates in my qvl and the things where perm clunking
took me all of an hour after getting it to fix that sh*t

if your new drives are wd's i advise you perm disable parking see my thread about it
