Post subject:  LS-QV4.0TL/R5 boot issue

I have a LinkStation Pro Quad - LS-QV4.0TL/R5. It was working great up until I moved and had it powered off for a couple months. When I powered it back up, the red light would flash 6 times.

1. re-seated the drives, no change
2. I've reset it according to documentation, and now it flashes red 7 times
3. Only one drive (position #1) lights up. I removed the 1st (of 4) drives, then only drive #2 would light up... same with #3 and #4
4. Won't connect w/NAS navigator2

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

1. check all drives with a Windows-pc and
https://osdn.net/projects/crystaldiskinfo/downloads/65980/CrystalDiskInfo7_0_5.exe/

if one drive is bad, do not use the linkstation to backup your date
use a pc with linux boot cd and mdadm software

All the drives are fine - the NAS just isn't booting, not getting an IP

Also, it's in a RAID5 config.

I recomend to backup the date with Knoppix.

The nas will format all drives.

you need a pc with 5 SATA-Ports and 5 sata cables

Powered off, pulled a drive and re-powered.

If you start the NAS and a hard disk is missing, then this hard disk is noted as defects.
If you have done this with all disks, then all disks for the NAS are defective and must be formatted.

This will be done if you flash the firmware.

If you do not need any data you can repair your nas with the normal way

1. boot with tftp
2. modify the LSUpdater.ini
3. Flash the Firmware with "rebuild partition table"

My german howto:

The NAS was working great up until I put it into storage for a couple of months during a move - haven't done a firmware upgrade for at least a year. The drive lights aren't flashing, with all 4 drives in, only drive position #1 lights up (solid). If I take drive #1 out and power on, only drive #2 lights up. Take drive 1 & 2 out and power on, only drive #3 lights up, and same with #4. Unfortunately, I really need the data on these disks...

Appreciate the help

Not familiar with Linux - is this a complex process? Would I essentially add the drives to my PC's system board (setup the RAID5 in the BIOS?), have Knoppix download on a USB and boot off of it?

NOOOO

I will give you the instructions.

1. download Knoppix
ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/ADRIANE-KNOPPIX_V7.2.0gCD-2013-07-28-EN.iso

2. connect the cd rom and all 4 drives

3. boot from the cdrom

4. at cdboot select 11 the shell

Ok - couple things for clarity:

1) can use my current Windows PC - utilizing 4 sata ports I'm not using, or unplug the Windows hard drives entirely?
3) does is matter which order I plug these 4 in?
4) do I need an extra drive plugged in as well to copy the recovered data to?

REALLY appreciate your help

Use a usb-drive

Do not use the raid drives on usb!
