Hi Oxygen
Here is the error i receive when trying to add the HDD to the Array

root@LT101NAS:~# mdadm --stop /dev/md2
mdadm: stopped /dev/md2
root@LT101NAS:~# mdadm /dev/md2 --manage --add /dev/sdc6
mdadm: cannot get array info for /dev/md2
root@LT101NAS:~#

I have one WD red that i have the old HDD 3 imaged to. I also have the replacementHDD 2 that i inserted when HDD 2 first failed. I can get my hands on another 2 WD red drives. What would the next steps be?
Cheers

ok so i re ran that command but it came up the same as before. it is probably because i shut down the device after each attempt. So i re ran the --stop command and the --manage --add and then i ran the cat /proc/mdstat. Below is the results.

root@LT101NAS:~# mdadm --stop /dev/md2
mdadm: stopped /dev/md2
root@LT101NAS:~# mdadm /dev/md2 --manage --add /dev/sdc6
mdadm: cannot get array info for /dev/md2
root@LT101NAS:~# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md1 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdd2[3]
4999156 blocks super 1.2 [4/2] [U__U]

md10 : active raid1 sda5[0] sdd5[3]
1000436 blocks super 1.2 [4/2] [U__U]

md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdd1[3]
1000384 blocks [4/2] [U__U]

unused devices: <none>
root@LT101NAS:~#

i hope this has some info you can use. What is your thoughts so far do you think this might be recoverable?
Cheers

How have you copied the drive?
You have to use dd.

Read about copying the mdadm superblock from a good drive.

Hi Oxygen
After long attempts i have conceded and taken the HDD to a data recovery firm. They believe they can get the data back for me. the 2 HDD have heaps of bad sectors on them.

Thanks you so much for your help here it has been a great learning experience for me. thank you again.
Cheers
