I have just put 4 3TB drives in my Buffalo LS-QVL NAS and configured it to Raid 5. So far it has taken nearly 7 days to copy 3TB of data to the NAS which seems a little slow to me.

The NAS is showing a blinking orange light (error I17 resyncing Raid array) which started just after first setting up the NAS. How long does the resyncing go on for as it is mention in manual that this slows access time down and I have a lot more files to copy.

Any help would be appreciated.
John

open ssh
use
Code:
cat /proc/mdstat

example
Code:
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md2 : active raid5 sdd6[3] sdc6[2] sdb6[1] sda6[0]
      11674308096 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] [UUUU]
      [=========>...........]  resync = 48.5% (1887962620/3891436032) finish=137253.1min speed=242K/sec

you can see finish in XXX min

This ist while copying to the nas. Without traffic the speed will be over 20000K/sec

Thanks for the help. NAS has now stopped checking raid but transfer speed is still no better around 10MB/s using a gigabit connection. I also have a ReadyNAS NV+ v2 and the transfer rate with that is 3 times faster around 30MB/s.
