So I got my data off but now I can't get the NAS to cooperate. Finding documentation on "removed disk" is harder than it should be:

I re-inserted disk 2. It states the disk is removed. I tried formatting it but it gave a "failed to operate" error. I did some checking and apparently it can't format a disk that has existing partitions. So I hooked it up to Win 7 and deleted all the partitions. Disk 2 without partitions is back in the NAS and when I tried to format it gave me the same error, "failed to operate". The only thing I can think of is that I have to actually reformat the drive as RAW. Or am I missing something?

EDIT - this a list of things to try:
- clone drive 3 and hope the cloned drive 2 tricks the NAS enough to let me reformat it
- transfer all my data off and reset the NAS settings and data
- stick 4 brand new drives in, format them, then transfer my data

EDIT2 - I wonder if there is a way to manually (re)add drive 2 to the array without affecting the data.
