Need some help here please. I have searched the forums but am stuck.
I am trying to put my existing data drives from a QL into a QVL that has a known firmware issue. And I need to retain the data on those drives.

4 1.5Tb drives in Raid5 worked fine in my QL. Blinking red LED told me a motherboard failure and this became a non-working unit. I purchased an empty QVL with flashinv blue LED (supposed firmware issue, unknown version)and want to load my drives. Any wiping or reformatting of the drives(and losing the data) is my last resort.

Can't see this with NAS navigator. Can't ping with static IP I assigned to old QL. Pulled off the network and using direct to PC - do I need a cross cable or straight patch (tried both). Attempts at putting into EM mode only result in both LEDs flashing blue (overnight) . Attempts at IP assignement and access via Tftpd unsuccessful ( but I have limited kn
owledge here).

Can someone give me tbw steps required to make this work and provide assistance?
Ask question for clarity.

Thanks in advance!

QL -> Orion5 based
QVL -> Kirkwood based
Orion5 firmware is NOT compatible to Kirkwood firmware.
Attach the disks to a PC with at least four SATA connectors and
an additional CD/DVD drive.
Take a Live Linux CD/DVD and start the PC from the Live CD/DVD.
Use mdadm to scan the disks and to form the RAID-5 assemblage.
DO NOT create a new set, just assemble the "old" one.
Use a USB or network connection to save your data from the last

After saving your valuable data, delete ALL partitions and put the
disks into the QVL.
Follow the Kirkwood based guides to recover a box via TFTP.
Use the MATCHING TFTP package for your box. If you are unsure,
ask Buffalo support for assistance to download the matching package.

Please do not use private mail (PN/M) to ask questions. Use the proper forum instead. (me)

If there is no verified backup of a dataset, the dataset, by definition, is unimportant. (c't 2012)

RAID (no matter which level) never ever substitutes a backup. (me)
