Hello all,

I followed the wiki on installing debian squeeze on LS-Mini ages ago. I kept the kernel up to date along the lines of that script: http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?t=23793.

I managed to upgrade to debian wheezy, that was basically a three-liner:

sed -i 's/squeeze/wheezy/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

Then I updated the kernel by getting the sources with
Code:
apt-get source linux
and copying over the config from the older compilations. I don't remember if it worked instantly, but it was not that hard.

Now Jessie came out and I did the same again, but i can't update the kernel. I don't get it to boot, and I suspect that is because raid autodetect is deprecated and the raids get random names like /dev/md127 (of course it could still be some wrong configuration). I am still on the wheezy kernel, which is 3.2.68 at the time of this writing. However what I did manage is switching to systemd, which was possible by using a new kernel config.

So thanks for your amazing work so far.

My favourite solution now would be a new initramfs, like the one debian generates automatically. That would need differend command line so I think it would be best to have grub. When i read this, I think it should be possible.

Has anyone done it? Are there easier alternatives?

Hi, after a long time working on this, desoldering the c54 cap, losing it, resoldering another one, going through the console, I managed to get the upgrade working.
Main issue was down to the kernel config missing some parameters where dependencies were not taken into account
(I can recall at least devtmpfs, cgroup and fhandle)
i m running now with the 3.16.7 on the box and it seems fine

also for future me and others as it take hours to build a kernel on this box, getting the cross compile line to work with these parameters :

now it builds in a few minutes on my computer rather than long hours on the mini

can you give me your steps/config files/how todos for the mini, i try to move them to the lschl.

Hi fibsifan,

I am attempting to update to Debian Jessie from Squeeze, and have used apt-get to perform a dist-upgrade. After reboot I cannot ssh into the device. I would be very interested in knowing what steps you took to fix your problems. I have opened the device and have access to the HDDs. I have not as yet fitted the serial interface for terminal access. I am happy to compile the kernel but I am struggling to find the kernel .config file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
