HI,
I've a Philips NAS SPD8020.
My Hard disk spoiled. Now I've bought a new hard disk, but I can't restore image file conteined in the original one.
So my NAS continously blink and doesen't start working.

How can I resolve this issue?

good news, got read/write driver working for ntfs disks :P

found the reason of the error when compiling the driver. It was hard to find
Just tested the driver, I had to add a kernel module as well but after that it worked without error messages and I could mount and read and write to an ntfs formatted usb disk connected to the SPD8020

PS this is only working on the new kernel 2.6.33.1 as included in fvdw6-1

time for an ice cold Heiniken

New release for spd8020 en lacie network space vs 1 version home made firmware version fvdw7-0

This are the main changes compared to fvdw6-1

7.0.1. FTP server enhanced with many new features and proftpd upgraded to latest version.
The credits and thanks for this go fully to Jocko a user that has written the new scipts for setting up the FTP server, he has done a great job

7.0.2. New fan control daemon that swithes the fan on at 46 oC disk temperature instead of 40 oC (spd8020 only)

7.0.3. Read/write support for ntfs USB disks.

7.0.4 Improved disk spin down performance in case of inactivity.

7.0.5 A new version of busybox (1.15.3)
This to increase compatibility of certain Linux commands with the current kernel.

7.0.6 A new menu for disk control and settings.
In this menu you can see if one (or more when using a hub) USB diks are mounted. And which share is made for the USB disk. Also you can use a command (safe remove)to unmount the USB disk before actually unplugging it from the NAS.

7.0.7 full versions of the ps and top commands added(linux command line).
The old ps command was linked to busybox, the new versions are the full standalone version from the proc-ps package version 3.2.8. This new ps binaries are useful for those using linux command line under ssh.

7.0.8 small bug solved that caused IE to hang when using shutdown and restart buttons.

7.0.9 bug solved that made a second boot necessary after installing new firmware (fvdw6-1 and 6-0) on the spd8020

Hi fvdw,

update works fine so far !
Some first tries with FTP failed but switching FTP server off/on leads to success. How can I adjust the different FTP user groups/rights ?

I have the impression that layout of webinterface jumps clicking through the menues. But that's on optic stuff.
On my 4x3 notebook I have to scroll right/left to see all menues.

so .. more testing during weekend...

To get more info on how to use the FTP features read the help window, click on the button with the question mark on the FTP server menu.
That should give you al the info you need, Jocko did a good job and made a detailed help menu.
Basically you have to set FTP enable for each share that you want to access via FTP. Use the file share menu and click on a share to open the edit menu, now tick the FTP access check box to enabled for this share. Here you can also set read/write rights per user for this share, those will be used by the FTP and samba server (samba is the server you get when accessing via explorer).
However to access a share outside the FTP home directory via FTP you also have to set in the FTP server menu the option "Some user can escape if they are allowed" instead of the default that they are chrooted (jailed) to the defined FTP home directory defined for a user.

There are more options, take some time to read the help page of the FTP server.

About the scrolling, thanks for the tip think in the next release some items on the horizontal bar will be moved to the vertical menu bar

New forum opened for fvdw firmware for Philips SPD8020 and Lacie nwsp vs1.

After closing down convopit we lost a nice place were we could discuss the home "fvdw" firmware for the lacie nwsp vs 1 and Philips spd8020. However a user of the firmware offered us the possibility to open a dedicated forum for this fvdw firmware that can run on the spd8020 and lacie networkspace vs1 (and in future also on network space vs2 is our plan). Setting up the forum has taken some time and delay in the finishing the new release (8-0) but it is close to finalizing.

The forum is setup and will be improved over time hoefully with help of your inputs and feedback.
It is open for anybody that has a question or want to give feedback or download latest versions and more.
The new forum has as url "plugout.net" to make it easy for you click this link the check it out http://plugout.net/index.php

PS The see and access the download forum you need to register, in the download section you can find the latest version of the firmware and other stuff that may be of your interest

rgds, fvdw

Hi fvdw, I'm new here and I have other concern, i bought Portable HD for my laptop, I just want to know your opinion with regards to this. The Portable HD when plug could not function, I cannot look it up in my computer? when I use another memory card on the same computer, it worked. I also tried plugging the HD to another comp and it worked.Do u think it might be a virus that's blocking the path of the PHD?

Many thanks :)

If it works an another computer then it must be something with your laptop. If both computers are running windows then I see no reason why it is not recognized by your laptop. Sometimes such a problem is caused by sufficient power supply via the usb port. Smaller portable harddisk typical don't have the own power supply and take it from the usb port. However the amount of power an usb port can deliver is small and if you use a long thin usb cable it even becomes more critical. If the portable hard disk gets unsufficient power it wo't run and can not be recognized. Try a short thick usb cable ti see if that helps or connect a power supply to the protable hard disk if thats possible.

ps what does have to do with the spd8020 ?
