I have an old buffalo 10/100 HD-H120Lan upgraded to 250gb and a buffalo LS-500GL with a 500gb drive.

I also have been running 2 freenas boxes, one with 1.5TB and the other with 2TB. Recently I had to replace one of the MBs in the frenas box and it turns out it wasn't 100% compatible. Lost 70 gb of files. One of the problems I have is I don't like to have 3 computers running all the time. 3 video machines and the 2 freenas boxes. I would like to cut down on power consumption, space and heat.

What I am thinking is to enlarge the LS-500GL to (1TB?). Then hang 2 USB 1TB hds of of it. Seems to me I tried to hang two usb units off the unit before but had 2 usb units with the same code that the buffalo unit uses. Two different usb devices work.

Can someone tell me what is the biggest hd I can put in the 500gb unit? What are the bioggest usb drives will it support? I just tried to hang a 1TB off of it and it doesn't see it.

Also, it has firmware 1.10. Is there an upgrade and is there advantage to upgrading?

THanks,

Jake
