Great! I've got all those. I didn't see the compiled binary though? Did you post it here?

Hi fvdw,

I have a problem... a folder which I can not delete.
I can move, rename it but not rename the files in it. The attributes of the files in it I can not change, too.

Booting a linux from recent c't does not help . i could mount the volume but no success deleting the files nor folder.

Have a XP SP3 ruuning on my PC.

How can I get rid of the folder ??

Thats only possible in case you are trying to do that while not being the owner of the files and folder and when attributes for others are set to read only.
If you connect via putty the you can change owner of the file using the chown command

For instance if the folder has the name /share/1000/wd9895 then to change the owner in that folder to user root give the command (in Puttty)
cd /share/1000/wd9895
9so you are in this directory nowe, then give command
chown -R root *

Now the owner should be root and you should be able to delete them assuming the owner had the right to write to files, otherwise you have to set permission for owner to r/w first or use the chmod command for it.
From within the folder give the command
chmod -R 777 *
(this will set all files and sub dir's and the files in there to rwx for as well owner, group as others)

If you have made the folder using the web interface then it should be possible to delete using the webinterface.
PS Deleting a folder using putty that you created using the webinterface via another way then using the webinterface is not recommended, this may confuse the samba server as it will remain present in the samba configuration file while in reality its no longer there.

hmm strange situation:

When i try to stream a video with twonky, i can't press forward on my remote sometimes. Debugging the log files produces the following situation:

pressing forward works:

Quote:

pressing forward does NOT work:

in my opinion i think that i cant press forward in the video, because of the content-range being zero, can anyone help what i can do to prevent this "error" and make forwarding available?!

what i found out, that twonky 5.1.2 supports my samsung tv as supported device.

so my question is: when i want to upgrade twonky to another version, which of these precompiled nas releases do i need:

For example the linkstation pro

ps Twonky supports any uPNP device you just have to edit the database and find the right settings for it.
ps2. These newer version might have fewer options as the beat version on the spd8020, some have tried it but reverted back

There is a firmware upgrade available to version fvdw6-0 (Beta)
This upgrade is suitable for for the SPD8020 and lacie network space vs 1

Main changes:
1. Linux kernel upgraded to 2.6.33.1 (yes you read it correct 2.6.33.1)
2. Possibility to set root password for ssh access
3. possibility to set port number FTP server
4. New mediaserver added, minidlna (no license cost required and better then the marvel server)

Check it out on convopit,

http://convopit.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=22868

there is a package for the spd8020 and Lacie network space.
Use the correct package for each device !

The package for the lacie network space I could not test as I don't have one myself, so volunteers are required to see if it the upgrade package works correctly on that device. The kernel will run on it 100% sure as the main board is the same as the spd8020.

if you try it please let us know your experience and please note it is a beta version that might contain some bugs.

Hi fvdw,

I use my Spd8020 only as a file server (incl FTP) in my network not as a streaming server.
The only thing I want to confirm is that after the update to 6.0 beta all of my data remain untouched and the process went fine. After double reboot you mentioned in your info everything was there as known.

Appreciate your massive work and I'm curious about the next things coming with this new kernel.

Regards
Bernd

thanks for trying the new firmware/kernel and feedback Bernd,
If you find anything nothing working properly please let me know.

One of the thing I want to try out is using a DVB-T stick, also webcam support is now possible, many will like the minidlna server I think as it is free and more configurable then the marvel server

That could be indeed.
the original fan control daemon used the temp of the HDD to switch the fan on and off, however that command only works with Hitachi drives. As some are building in disks from other brands it is now looking every 5 minutes if the disk is active or not, if it is active the fan switches on if the hard disk is not active (not spinning) it switches off. This works with all kind of drives but I could try to build in the temp measurement for hitachi drives again
