Can someone let me know what the permissions should be on /etc/security? So embarrassing.. I wasn't paying enough attention while following the Freelink automatic install instructions and instead of typing

chmod 0744 /etc/securetty

I typed

chmod 0744 /etc/security

Thanks in advance!

0644 on /etc/securetty, 0755 on /etc/security (Debian etch), 0644 on /etc/security/*

Thanks!!

When you say "0644 on /etc/securetty" do you mean that was the original permissions settings?

It's just a list, not a program that would have to be executed. I use shadow passwords, so /etc/login.defs is the file that counts on my system. But even here, 0644 should be enough.

man 5 securetty
man 5 login.defs
