after poweroutage LS-VL went into EM mode (blue led blinking); used LSUpdater to reflash to new firmware 1.68; password at the end of flashing procedure was not accepted - used ESC to finish - this may have been the key mistake; LS went into "normal" mode; correct name, IP, used/free capacity, firmware version, etc. ... but still no access; neither mapped drives nor access via webinterface; access denied due to "wrong passwords"; own admin password as well as standard pw not accepted (admin/password).

Resetting via "hold function key while powering up, brief function key" went obviously right incl. orange led (2*long, 3* short) then normal blue led indicator; but: still no access as well not via web access (passwords incorrect).

Again reflashing not possible due to question for password; any ideas how to proceed?

Issue has been solved.

Make use of FW 1.40 (Japanease version), not Version 1.68.

Push LS into EM-mode via acp-commander; reflash new fw 1.40; at the end of flashing there will NOT be any question to enter a password - that's the key difference to FW 1.68 - instead password is being reset to admin/password; after reflash you need to switch to your language back. There was good support from Buffalo helpdesk with description what to do and where to find firmware, flash sw and acp-commander.

All user data being kept; no data loss (as long as you do not explicitely push for formatting).
