Hey all,

I got the drive about 2 months ago and after a week of working fine the drive started only working intermitantly. After I couldnt figure out what was wrong it died completely, using nasnavi 2 I found it there was "too many bad sectors" to work so I recovered my data (The bad sectors seemed to be limited to the filesystem partition of the hard drive. After I recovered my data I tried to connect the drive again, but this time nas navi didn't detect the drive at all, I tried the TFTP procedure anyway, nothing, so I tried wiping the partitions, and connecting the drive back in the case, I tried raw with no partitions, xfs and ext3 and no luck at all. I have checked the drive and it is fully working and I can install linux on it without a hitch so it isn't the drive that is the issue.

I found a person who had managed to extract the files from the firmware update files and put them onto the drive, thus forcing the drive into em mode and allowing a proper installation of the firmware however the buffalo forums where this person posted won't let me sign up so I can't as him how he did it.

The crux of my question is how to get a blank drive to work with a CS-X1.0 TL because I can't get my laptop to detect the drive at all now and the blue light just flashes rapidly constantly so I can't get it into em mode either, tried powering on without a drive then powering down and putting the drive back in, nothing, tried the same with each raw xfs and ext3, nothing... I have no idea what else to try now.

If you haven't used the disk manufacturers SMART tool,
you are NOT able to decide, weither the disk is healthy
or not.
You might had a guess, but to be sure, use the SMART
tool of the manufacturer of the disk.
