Hi all,

I want to refresh (fresh system) my LS HD-HGLAN. In History there was Freelink on the Station, but about several compilation, updates etc... the system was anymore
what I expect.
The HD-HGLAN FWUpdate.exe does not found the LS, maybe about W7 or because I've install years ago foonas ( Vers 1.0 )
If I disconnect the HD, I could reached the EM-Mode ( fooNAS is starting and get an IP via DHCP)
Uncomfortable FooNAs could not give me a list of Customsbuilds to install (error that the -tmp with checksummes could not be found)

So I make a telnet connection.
call fdisk and create sda1 (ext3) with ca. 7G / sda2 as swap and mkswap / sda3 rest of 500G (ext3)

I load the openlink 0.5x from the DL section (HG-LAN Wiki), extract from image.dat (pwd from Wiki) the tmpimage, load them via ftp on the mounted sda1

I load the firmimg.bin and Bootcode.bin via ftp and flash them:

foonas-em$ cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00300000 00010000 "mtd_firmimg"
mtd1: 00070000 00010000 "mtd_bootcode"
mtd2: 00010000 00010000 "mtd_status"
mtd3: 00080000 00010000 "mtd_conf"
mtd4: 00400000 00010000 "mtd_allflash"
mtd5: 000f0000 00010000 "mtd_data"

dd if=bootcode.bin of=/dev/mtdblock0 bs=1k

dd if=firmimg.bin of=/dev/mtdblock1 bs=1k

on sda1 : tar -xvzf tmpimage.tgz

foonas-em$ ls -lh

and reboot

Uncomfortable the LS playes "dead man" : the first LED (upper one) light ca. 50%, the LAN LED is lightning, but there is no DHCP request etc .....

What does I've wrong?
the part with bootcode.bin / firmimg.bin ?

How I can push the LS to run ?

The LS start in EM mode ... the write:OK does not exist in the console and n the Webpage I received this Kind of error ( see above)

It Looks like, that the Server, which should provide the chsum list does not contains this one, because the Internet Connection works fine :

Hmmmmm , no answer in between???

OK, lets go:
I have extract under Linux the Debian Wheezy Version on the HD.
The partions is sda1 for "/" and ext2 ( I've try ext3 filesystem, but without success :( )
sda2 is the swap Partition, sda3 the rest of all.

The LS does not working via updater and a crossover cable, the Foonas does not know tftp and a DCHP with TFTP Option ( try to load the firming.bin was also without success.
The EM Kernel is 2.6 and does not allowed to Flash the 2.4 Kernel back ; not with dd, not with cat.

Now I have modifiert the LS to have an Access via Serial: that's the Output :

* Why the loader does not found the files in /boot ( hda0:1 ) ? The files are available, or are the permissions are wrong?

* Should I Flash the firmimg.bin >> hd-hglan_161_telnet_improved_EM_v3 insteat of the fooNAS-EM ? (How? )

( Hint : fooNas-EM does not found anything online, however why, the only Chance is the Telnet-console -- so it make not so much sense to have this one ... ( maybe I Need the latest Version? )

continuous endless story:
after flashing foonas 1.2 incl timeouts during flash and flash in very small steps and x times erase different Flashaereas ( problems starts at FFE0 0000 ) the LS HG has now u-boot 1.2 and the latest Foonas.
After reboot into foonas-em, WebGUI dedected as only distribution Gentoo and I try to install it, but it looks like that also this image is no more available on the request server ( however it it).

First of all: Let have a drink, that the flashing was successfully.
On other hand :
Normally I want to install debian (wheezy) http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25817&hilit=Wheezy+hg+debian

But I did not understood, what does it means:
All the existing tools plus:

Samba (set to default workgroup)
Transmission (http web client on port 9091)

I installed these extras as they keep coming up in the forums... in particular transmission which can be a bit tricky to get working with the same user as samba.
Please check the configuration of these packages to make sure they suit your needs / security requirements. If you don’t want them just remove them using apt.

I suggest using foonas-em to setup your box.http://foonas.org/index.php/Foonas-em:TFTPBoot-lsppc

You will need at least UBoot 1.2 as per usual
UBoot should look for the kernel at: boot/uImage

To keep it simple fstab only expects a root and swap partition
/dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 (sda3 is not mounted in fstab)

The link pointed only to the side in wiki, how I can load FooNas via TFTP, but how it should install the tarball ?

I did not understood, how the installation should be work ...
What does I miss??

Now its running:

* 1st problem an old Foonas
*1.1 LS does not react to an updater
*1.2 LS does not want to boot via TFTP
*1.3 LS does not make at every time a DHCP Request

* 2nd problem the flash could not be flashed (only via serial )
* 3rd problem : timeout during flash in U-Boot ( works finally in very small steps and erasing at every time in front)
* 4th problem : Debian Wheezy 3.4 contains in the tgz the UUID;
* 5th problem : tar in foonas does not understood : tar -xavf >archiv< --strip-component=1 Solution :create a directory with the name as the UUID, untar with -C option

Thanks everyone (whom?) for help - :x
but thx all user which have wrote his problems AND solution in the different threads - also that it was sometimes hard, because old and in the time invalid-information are available, files which are mention in the wiki was never found etc.etc ... :biglol:
