Hello,
I try to make some use of my old Kuro HG/WR by updating the bootloader to U-boot so i can run a recent Debian on it.
I encounter the following problems:

1-
Code:
dd if=u-boot-lsppchg-flash-1.2.0-r2.bin of=/dev/mtdblock1 bs=1k

wont work from the standard kernel, EM mode or normal mode ( the device is not present so it will create/write for nothing ).

2-
Most of the files needed in the various tutorials are now offline, i didnt find a sylver image to try out with another kernel.

Code:
KURO-BOX:~# uname -a
Linux KURO-BOX 2.4.17_mvl21 #24 2004ǯ 10 19 17:17:03 JST ppc GNU/Linux

The PPC kuros are old, thats true, but it would be great to keep'em alive!

Thanks in advance for your help, and my apologies for my english.

more information can be found in this post: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25817

Cheers,

Thanks for your help,

Foonas-EM is probably the best tool for setting up OS images on the Ls, but it needs u-boot to load itself.

So the actual issue, for me, is flashing u-boot on the rom, and it seems that my late 2.4.17 kernel wont do the job.

Do you think i could boot another one ( maybe from an old sylver image, or even a 2.4.20 from buffalo ) to flash u-boot with DD ?

If so, where could y find the files? ( kernel + loader or full image including those )

Thanks.

Yes, you are in a bit of a tight spot with a 2.4 kernel.

Have you attached a serial console to the box? that way you can see exactly what UBoot version you are at and interact with UBoot directly.
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Add_Serial_Port

Then read this page: http://buffalo.nas-central.org/index.ph ... bootloader (taking note of "Flashing U-Boot from U-Boot")

Good luck,
Stonie.

I am sure that i dont have u-boot on this box but the original bootloader.

For now im stuck here, following the http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Kurobox_support_in_stock_2.6_kernels#dtc_tool how to.

I used the uloader for 2.4.17 kernel and the prebuilt u-boot "u-boot-hg.ram.bin" (1.2.0-r2 )

Code:
# ./u-boot-load-hg.sh
Warning: kernel-module version mismatch
uloader.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.17_mvl21-sandpoint
while this kernel is version 2.4.17_mvl21
Warning: loading uloader.o will taint the kernel: forced load
See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules
Module uloader loaded, with warnings

# Connection closed by foreign host.

After that i have nothing on netcat ( 192.168.1.150:6666 )

The kuro start flashing the power led, then after some minutes lights up the diag (red) led alone.

There is something wrong, but where?

Are you 100% sure you have your network configuration set-up correctly?

If you do... then all I can suggest is attaching a serial cable, at least you will be able to see what is going on.
