I wonder if anyone has ever tried using a JBOD USB adapter card (from Addonics.com) with the Linkstation? The card allows up to 4 IDE hard drives to be viewed as a single USB drive.

Does it work okay with the Linkstation?

If anyone has had experience of this setup, please let me know.

cheers!

page seems to be down?

you mean this here?
[url=http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache:FgI9FLHE4isJ:www.addonics.com/products/io/ad4ideu2.asp+usb+jbod&hl=de&gl=at&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a:202bd]http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache:FgI9FLHE4isJ:www.addonics.com/products/io/ad4ideu2.asp+usb+jbod&hl=de&gl= at&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a[/url:202bd]

i only see windows support:
[code:202bd]OS support: Windows 98SE, 2000, XP, 2003 server[/code:202bd]

question is if there is any additional software bundled...

nobody tried that before...question is if the kernel has support for that....

The site does appear to be down. I did get onto their shopping page to view details of the board.

Seems like a neat idea, but I can only get thet LinkStation to see one of the hard drives (the one set to Master) on the first IDE channel.

There is no software bundle with the unit.

<Solved>

Each drive needs to be unformatted prior to being attached to the LS. Format the USB1 drive and all works okay. I've currently got two drives on the JBOD card - LS sees one drive the size of the two drives added together.

Not sure how the data is stored on the hard drive. Say if one crashes, do I loose [i:3aac7]all[/i:3aac7] the data. I'll look into it and post on this message.

You can do this with LVM under linux but this can lead to possible corruption for removable media based disks.

what about testing this? transfer some files on it and then just unplug one harddrive....it is a good idea to test in advance than to know it better afterwards.
