experiences w/ Roku & other sound bridges <-> mt-daapd on Linkstation (running freelink)? Good, bad, ugly, fabulous?

Please, could you share whatever you personally know...

I'm thinking about a Roku M1001 or M500 to link to my FreeLink box running the latest FireFly/mt-daapd (the newest one they have up is svn 1450, IIRC - it has a very nice playlist feature). I just want audio/mp3 access.

Roku M1000

Run it with mt-daapd (0.24? andres), because it's conveniant having itunes on multiple PC's around the house.
Have tried most of the servers mention around the threads - all accept slimserver worked well on my Linkstation(s) and did the same job.

Did I read something about the new Soundbridges (that aren't made by Roku???) being not compatible with itunes

Obviously dependent on what files your playing and what you hook it up to. I can't grumble, infact I've always loved this device

It's absolutely awful in your hand, does everything it should do up to about 15ft I suppose - I use a Logitech Harmony 525 to control everything I've got.

davy_gravy wrote:

Need to change the font to big and thick so as to see it across the room - basically does what you need it to, in the simplest way

davy_gravy wrote:

Wireless - I got mine a while ago, had to buy the card if I recall - it's 'b' - no problem at all with streaming speed or playback etc

One thing that bugs me is that it still doesnt support WPA - same as the Linktheater I've got

does it support some sort of password scheme, like WEP? (better than nothing...?)

I think they support WEP not WPA. There is good information at the Wikipedia page for the soundbridge

thanks, folks, ... anyone else out there have first hand experience w/ the Roku M1000 or M1001? I've done the research already, I'm just waitin' to hear from those of you who have one & love it, tolerate it, or hate it...

PS

@mindbender - you do mean that in relative terms of course, right? they'd at least have to guess a password...or spend time cracking it, right?

I had a look at these too a year ago when I was in Canada. The larger display is the best model. The wifi was provided by a plug-in flash card. Supported by Slim too. Cheaper than the squeeze and just as good a product I feel.

i only read good reviews....even at tomsnetworking.com.

if it is possible then use a cable. if you live in your own house, wep might be ok (well no...it depends on the wlan radius).
never use WEP in a flat! all others will use your inet-connection and your LS might be used for public storage

well, this at least would happen if all other guys would be like me.

I've actually just installed the beta firmware on it that supports it, so I think I'll switch over to WPA.

That means I'll have to use my Linktheater wired - although if I ever get that wireless dongle to work properly I'll be able to use the ethernet port on the Linkstation to do that and still be able to contact it - did I start rambling?

@mindbender - I had missed your changed sig! I didn't realize that you had opened the LSPRO, not just the box. Strike funny. That's cool!

Hi all.

I currently have 3 Roku devices, an M2000, and M1001 and an R1000 (SB Radio) in my bedroom.
The M1001 and R1000 are running wireless 64bit wep where I am (no other networks near me).
The lastest beta firmware does now support WPA, and as of yesterday, also Itunes 7.

All run from 2 firefly (new name for mt-daapd) instances running on one of my LS11 250GB Linkstations.
One server is for classical and the other popular music.

I have posted details of the Roku thread with (info on compiling Firefly on an LS11) on the LS11 Forum
firefly binaries.

Have been very pleased with my setup, use it continually.
