Folks - I have a LinkstationPro LS-GL series 1, and I'm trying to update firmware, but can't get the updater to work - it asks for a password, and I enter the default admin/password set, and am refused access. I've done the standard reset procedure, and nothing changes. Also can't access the setup web interface, for the same reason. Is the password not resetting? Is there another sequence for forcing a password reset?

The drive is visible on the network, and the data all accessible. Any obvious answers? I did try a forum search, but couldn't see anything onviously relevant.

Thanks for the help...

Bob

The default password is password. To reset these and other configuration files you can hold the reset button on the rear of the unit in during powerup; hold for at least 30+seconds.

OK. Tried both the method in the manual - from normal operation, hold reset button until bleep - and the method you describe (hold reset from powerup for 30s+). First method seems to fail to reset password; second method leaves the LS incommunicado, and I have to hold power switch to turn off. In both cases, when I'm up and running again it fails to accept 'password' as the admin password

The reset approach was a long shot as it relies on a save being made which sounds like it has not happened.

Have you tried the java updater to see if it gives you access?

Is there an idiot's guide to the java updater? If that's the acp-commander.jar thing, then I have been able to run it, but don't know what to do then! I can access the drive, and have used PuTTY to display a prompt. Can I reset the web interface password from there?

yes. the password of the user "admin" is the one to reset.

while connected via telnet execute
Code:
passwd admin

and enter the new password twice. press enter everywhere else.

What is the java updater? I cannot reset my NAS, and I have tried all of the methods.
