be careful to say 1.12, as that doesn't support nfs, the 1.12-2a firmware does.

Ran acp_commander minimally:

D:\Hardware>"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\java.exe" -jar acp_commander.jar -t 192.168.1.11 -o
ACP_commander out of the linkstationwiki.net project.
Used to send ACP-commands to Buffalo linkstation(R) LS-PRO.

WARNING: This is experimental software that might brick your linkstation!

Using random connID value = 394AC924555F
Using target: ARAPAHO/192.168.1.11
Authenticate: OK (ACP_STATE_FAILURE)
start telnetd... OK (ACP_STATE_OK)

Reset root pwd...

You can now telnet to your box as user 'root' providingno / an empty password.

But while I now have telnet access, I still can't login as root. It still asks for a password.
Any ideas?

My machine is :
bash-2.05b$ uname -a
Linux ARAPAHO 2.6.16.16-arm1 #3 Fri Jun 29 11:14:38 JST 2007 armv5tejl unknown

and I recently flashed it with
VERSION=1.11-0.62
BOOT=1.10
KERNEL=2007/06/29 11:13:34
INITRD=2007/07/09 09:05:54
ROOTFS=2007/07/12 09:17:25
FILE_BOOT = u-boot.buffalo.updated
FILE_KERNEL = uImage.buffalo
FILE_INITRD = initrd.img
FILE_ROOTFS = hddrootfs.img

I should have said, sorry, but I did it 3 times.

And I just did it again twice.
Same result.
Telnet asks for a password for root; which I do not know.

I can telnet in as a user created through the web control panel, but that is not much use.

Using a different version of Java did the trick: jre 1.6.0
NOT jre 1.6.0_01

but only worked on the second time.

Code:
D:\Hardware>"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\java.exe" -jar acp_commander.jar
 -t 192.168.1.11 -o
ACP_commander out of the linkstationwiki.net project.

Strange. The code for starting telnetd (that got a positive reply) and resetting the password (which failed) is just the same. The only difference is the string in the packet sent to the linkstation. In the first packet "/etc/bin/telnetd", in the second "/etc/bin/passwd -d". I don't see any reason why/how the java version would interfere here.
Regarding the "second time" problem, check out the latest version from sourceforge. I've increased the timeout and where it doesn't harm I resend the packet up to three times if we don't get an answer.

I have stock firmware 1.15 on my linkstation pro V2 and try to open it following the script method, eg. editing the contents of the downloaded LS-GL_FW_115.zip package by unzipping and untarring the contents. The password for 1.03 provided in the scripts does not work for hddrootfs.img on 1.15. Did anybody find the new password ? I searched the forum but did not get a hit. It must be in the LSUdater.exe binary. A simple strings LSUpdater.exe did not show anything obvious.

Thanks, Andreas

I suppose the reason why nobody responded is that the password is sort of in the FAQ. It is just under another topic:

http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/FAQ ... tfs.img.3F

However, it is worth repeating:

The password for hddrootfs.img in LS-GL_FW_115.zip is: YvSInIQopeipx66t_DCdfEvfP47qeVPhNhAuSYmA4

I also looked into the Live firmware.

For HS-DHGL_211_101b.zip there is no password necessary. The gzipped tar archive hddrootfs.buffalo.updated comes as is.

For ls-chl_107-065.zip (the newer? Live model) the password for hddrootfs.img is: aAhvlM1Yp7_2VSm6BhgkmTOrCN1JyE0C5Q6cB3oBB

Thanks for reading, Andreas
