Some clarification is needed for rule #6 of the forum rules.

Quote:
6. The #linkstationwiki IRC channel at freenode is not to be used as a way to circumvent the searching of the wiki and forums requirement for support questions. It is unfair to users that have properly asked questions in the forum, for developers to quickly answer questions in IRC. If you have a fair support question, post it in the forums, not in IRC. If your question has not been answered, it has likely been ignored for a reason. Users caught using the #linkstationwiki channel merely to to circumvent proper support asking techniques, will lose #linkstationwiki IRC privileges

The reason for this rule, is to stress the point that #linkstationwiki is not a support channel. In recent months, we have had numerous support complaints (usually with well documented solutions in the wiki or forums) addressed in the channel. I hate to come down hard, but because the nas-central.org team are guys donating their time, there is not any, nor is there any planned, nas-central.org IRC support channels.

The channel is to be used for development purposes only. It is true that most of the team spends more time in the channel, but that is because we are collaborating on ideas for our community. Everyone is welcome (not just developers) to join the channel. We just ask that the spirit of the channel be directed towards development or innovative ideas in general. In fact, all members/developers working on a project are encouraged to use the channel, rather than the forums, to discuss their project development. Doing so allows for quick discussion among developers, and doesn't cause the forums to be clogged with chat-log like documentation. Also, should you ask for help in the forums, and a team member requests that it would be better to discuss the issue in IRC (whatever the reason may be), doing so does not violate our rules.

To sum it up, support questions belong in the forums, not IRC, unless directed by a team member. Anyone found not in compliance with this rule will be banned from #linkstationwiki.
