I would like to turn off anonymous FTP access on my LinkStation GL.

I've seen two potential ways to do this. The first is to make a new user anonymous with a password; the other involves assigning access privileges to the folders on the NAS.

I've tried both of these, and while they do block anonymous FTP access, they also both block local Apple Filing Protocol (afp://192.168.x.x) from the Mac OS that tries to mount the NAS as a share. SMB also appears to be blocked. I typically use the 'Go -> Connect to Server...' method of connecting from the Finder. One of the drives is also automatically mounted via the login items in 'System Preferences -> Users & Groups'. Both of these work great as long as anonymous access is enabled. Once it's turned off the drive unmounts from the desktop and can't be reconnected.

So is there a way to block anonymous FTP but still maintain local access as a shared drive?

Thank you.
