Hi.

I recently obtained a Buffalo LS-H500GL here in Tokyo. I was hoping to remove the stock software and put Freelink/Optware on it.

I have been looking through these forums but haven't come across much info that I can use.

I can access the web admin page, change the language back to English but there's nothing here that suggests I can get a SSH shell prompt for me to install the Optware/MSII bootstrap script.

I have tried the Freelink Arm9-1.0rev2 LSUpdater software but it doesn't see it.

I have also tried to mount the drive on my Linux desktop via USB (the connector is a A type - not the square printer/scanner type) but Linux does not see the drive.

I must be missing something. Can anyone show me where I should start?

Thanks.
James

I don't have an HGL, but I've got some ARM units... typically acp-command is used to get access to a telnet or ssh connection.

From there many folks use the Optware packages.

If you are looking for Debian on these, you might want to read the "Lenny" thread on the CHL:
LS Live 3 AKA LS-CHL: How to backup and setup lenny

This may give you some insight into how it possibly could be done on your unit...

Thanks for the quick reply. :)

Yes, I think the LS-H500GL is a ARM unit.

I'm checking my linux desktop for the acp_commander package but I don't see it in the repo there.

I don't want to disassemble the unit in case I mess it up. I'm fine with Optware.

Thanks again for the tips.
