Hi All,
I'm noob to Linux kernel compile and sorry for this stupid question...

I have 1 Linkstation XHL with 2.6.31 and modules...
I tried to compile natively the kernel 2.6.34 for my CHL and successfully got the new uImage 2.6.34 for CHL (thank ash for the patch).
Then I try to compile modules with this...

make INSTALL_MOD_PATH=/to/new/location modules

But what I got are just some modules in /to/new/location which doesn't exist in the working environment (i.e. "make modules" will not compile the xfs.ko since xfs.ko already exists at /lib/modules/2.6.31/kernel/fs/xfs/xfs.ko - current system, but that the current xfs.ko can not be loaded with new uImage 2.6.34 since its vermagic mismatch).

How can I force the make process to re-build all modules and export them to /to/new/location so I can put them all on a fresh new CHL system or share with others?

What about

make modules modules_install

or, in one step

make oldconfig uImage modules modules_install

Not sure if I got you right, but if you want to move the modules, some of this may or may not help:

cp -a /lib/modules/yourversion /the/newsystem/lib/modules/
depmod -a
# maybe:
chroot /the/newsystem/
depmod -a
