A reference question for all of you out there that have converted CA-42 USB cables to Serial Access cables for use w/ your LinkStations.

Have you had success w/ ark3116-based Serial Adapters?

I was under the impression that they were Prolific-based, but this appears to not be the case, as dmesg yielded:
[43628.504016] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
[43628.688364] usb 4-2: configuration #0 chosen from 1 choice
[43628.688375] usb 4-2: config 0 descriptor??
[43628.691286] ark3116 4-2:0.0: ark3116 converter detected
[43628.724289] usb 4-2: ark3116 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

On the minicom side of things, I observed just got garbled output, and I got the feeling that I had no write control, only read. The box/LSProV2 that it was attached to is known good, just JTAGged back to life, and works normally w/ my RS232-ftdi-based serial adapter.

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddASerialPort mentions the CA-42, but again it seems to me that it is refenced as a Prolific-based device.

Any chance the cable I observed is just a knock-off of a real CA-42?

Any help would be suggested... pyefox will be monitoring this thread I guess since it is his cable. :)

EDIT: I saw Andreas Aen Bach's post saying to Google "DKU-5 pinout", but have not been able to find any clear ark3116-specific mention of the wire colors.

Anybody know from first-hand knowledge?
