Hi,

I have just installed the "latest" openlink 0.52b.

I try to setup rsync there but the following instruction
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Rsy ... her#MIPSel
is not working because the repository is not available anymore & there is a note that anyway packages were not stable ...

I plan to install:
- rsync
- torrent client
- proxy server
- ssh tunneling (can dropgear do that?)
- web server
- media server
- webmin

What do you recommend?
- compile my own package for openlink?
- switch to debian latest mips?
- switch to freelink (debian etch)?

Thanks,

I would say install freelink, then uboot run a 2.6* kernel and upgrade freelink (debian) to latest. Once you got all that sorted start installing what you need

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.

Does it means that if I manage to move to 2.6 I can install the latest (lenny) package from debian mips distribution?

By the way the correct package in debian are mips or mipsel?

Ok I read the instruction here
http://www.geishuettner.de/docs/Linksta ... n%20II.pdf

When I try to run the debil.sh script I get first
Code:
debil.sh/mipsel 0.1 by marge
see http://www.geishuettner.de/docs/Linkstation/ for updates

(if you want to collect error messages created outside this script
you should rerun with a redirect of handle 2)
./debil.sh: arch: command not found
Press enter to begin installation

Then

Code:
`//lib/modules/idtinfo.o' -> `/mnt/hda/debil-0.1/debinst/lib/modules/modules/idtinfo.o'
`//lib/modules/2.4.20_mipsel_linkstation/kernel/fs/nls/nls_big5.o' -> `/mnt/hda/debil-0.1/debinst/lib/modules/modules/2.4.20_mipsel_linkstation/kernel/fs/nls/nls_big5.o'

Ok no in deep $hi& .....

for whatever reason the firmware update failed

The box does not answer to ssh or ping even if the installed ip 192.168.11.150 seems to be found by my router.

the 2 leds are green and steady ....

If I try to re-run the flash program it does not find any linkstation ...

what is next? some hope there?

Yes :biglol:

Now I got the correct firmware installed and I get the following (network setup changed to correct subnetwork and fix ip)
FreeLink @ Debian GNU/Linux 3.1

my /etc/apt/sources.list looks like that
Code:
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free
#deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
#deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
#deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates stable contrib non-free
#deb-src http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates stable contrib non-free

what is next step tutorial to follow? This one?

Follow http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Fre ... nux_Server to start with - be careful though about dhcp address, see the bottom of the link. If I recall dhcp is broken and you can get locked out, best use static ip.

-EDIT-

Actually I wouldn't bother with webmin, and you say you've done ip already 8-)

You need to stay on Etch for the time being though, as I recall Lenny will require you to have a 2.6 kernel running, and for that you are going to need uboot installed..

Uboot reading:
http://www.linuxnotincluded.pwp.blueyon ... t-ls2.html
http://www.linuxnotincluded.pwp.blueyon ... l-ls2.html

Uboot install for the impatient:
http://downloads.buffalo.nas-central.or ... EUBOOT.TXT

Uboot for LS2:
http://downloads.buffalo.nas-central.or ... 0.1.tar.gz

Yes, but you won't be able to get a 2.6 kernel from Debian repositories, but there are a few here you can use (or compile yourself)
By the way the correct package in debian are mips or mipsel?
mips
